Re: Window focus is utterly broken

Does Cinnamon require a fully-functional accelerated 3D graphics setup to run correctly (in all aspects)? I've never really been clear on this, but if so, I'd lean towards thinking the problem stemmed from the OP's graphics setup. Such things probably differ from computer to computer - and distro ve...

Re: Window focus is utterly broken

Did you verify the ISO before burning it? I mean, no, but what are the odds that 5 different ISOs across 2 different distributions and 2 years are all corrupt? Especially when you consider that several of them are the same ISOs I used fine on old laptops/Virtual Machines. I guess it's like asking w...

Re: My panel keeps disappearing.

Is it possible it keeps disappearing because you're in fullscreen mode? F11 should get you back to normal if that's the case. Fullscreen? Not to my knowledge. This is the first I have heard of this. What does it do (since I assume fullscreen is the default)? [EDIT] Okay, I see. If a window if full-...

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 codenamed ‘Tessa’

It's a question of getting the answer to your question, as opposed to getting an answer that you want to hear (read) . And that's fine as far as it goes, I suppose - because it is, to some extent, human nature, and we've probably all suffered some form of it at one time or another. As an extreme exa...

Re: IBM to buy Red Hat

As long as software is using a free software license, if somebody is charging money for it somebody else can offer the same software without charging for it. That's what Scientific Linux, CentOS and others do with RHEL software. Furthermore... If Steve writes software and releases it under some kin...

Re: The IBM purchase of Red hat

Hasn't Red Hat, like IBM, always been a for-profit company? Yes, Red Hat has contributed a LOT to our little open source world - but so has IBM: In 1999, IBM announced its support for the open source Linux operating system. Since that time IBM has invested considerable financial, technical, and mark...

Re: VOTE ! Mint-Y-LOGO... A New Version Of The Linux Mint Logo !

I do like the shade of green better, though. I do, too. Nonetheless, I agree with you in that I prefer the original. I am hesitant to use "advertising department" language, but the official logo just looks more... organic(?) to my eye. Maybe it reminds me of a leaf or something, I don't know ...

Re: Window focus is utterly broken

I can understand your frustration. But you must surely agree that any issue that neither you nor anyone else knows how to reproduce is going to be extremely problematic to diagnose. It'll also probably be difficult for the developer to decide to devote man-hours on if/when you appear to be the only ...

much of my software work only in KDE and no in chinnamon.. I do not understand the above statement. Re: xfce+Thunar vs Cinnamon+Nemo?

To answer your question, it's probably far simpler of a thing to use a non-"native" file manager in Xfce than it is to use a non-"native" file manager in Cinnamon. That's just a guess from an ignorant one, but as long as Nemo follows accepted standards, it should work. Also, even if it does not, it ...

Re: Wine will not install in LM19

I did a screenshot of the terminal output but I do not no how to attach it to this post. Is there some reason why you cannot simply copy the output text and paste it into a message, bracketed by a pair of CODE tags to keep things neat, as per normal? As far as I know, this forum does not host users...

BTW: I have 100 free wallpapers for anyone who wants them, right here:  www.drachenbeere.de/100walls_1800.tar.gz For some reason, the forum causes that link to end up being: https://forums.linuxmint.com/www.drachenbeere.de/100walls_1800.tar.gz ...on my system. Re: Nemo in list view: Mouse click stops working after double click

That should get the ball rolling, so to speak.

I hadn't thought of it before now, but I wonder if that 500ms time is hard-coded, or a configurable variable that the user can set? If so, you would be able to reduce yours (to zero, I suppose).

LOL, yeah. Sometimes (*) , the ability for a person to understand the question that they, themselves, are asking is just as important as being able to understand the answers they are given. Considering Qt5 is partially pre-installed on LM19 and the rest is available from the repository, maybe the better question is what you are trying to achieve.
Yes. OP, are you trying to install the full development version of QT5 for programming/development use, or... ?

Re: No ssd swap althoug configured

Would configuring your Mint 18.3 installation to use a swap file (which, as far as I know, resides on the OS' own partition) instead of a swap partition be a viable solution for you?

Re: Nemo in list view: Mouse click stops working after double click

This might actually be a feature, lol. Not to slow down people's productivity, but to prevent inadvertent triple- and/or quadruple clicks. Especially if just moving the mouse cursor a single pixel is enough to cause the "hold" to not happen. You can file a bug report on this thing; the response you ...

To have an independent volume icon on the panel you can install xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin and add it to the panel.

I am aware that I could, e.g., add PulseAudio Plugin, but it does not have the same functionality.
