Re: Topics will be closed after 6 months
Nor will stickied topics be closed automatically. In my opinion, "sticky" threads should be closed immediately upon creation or, at most, 72 hours from that time. Such threads are universally assumed to contain information that is important to know, useful, or both - and, therefore, shoul...

USB Flash Drive Tester?
Hi, Will someone please point me towards an app (or terminal command) that will examine a USB flash drive? The one I am specifically concerned about is supposed to be a 512-gigabyte flash drive. I am hoping for a way to verify that it is actually the capacity that it is supposed to be. A way to chec...

General Security Updates Question
On the web pages about each version release, I always see something like: LTS strategy Linux Mint 20.3 will receive security updates until 2025. Until 2022, future versions of Linux Mint will use the same package base as Linux Mint 20.3, making it trivial for people to upgrade. Until 2022, the devel...

Linux Mint 20.3 xfce ISO image fails verification for me
Just download the Mint 20.3 Xfce .ISO via Windows 10. Jumped through the 64,738 (slight exaggeration, although it doesn't feel like one) hoops to verify the blasted thing. Failed on last step, with: gpg: Signature made 1/13/2022 4:57:50 PM Eastern Standard Time gpg: using RSA key 27DEB15644C6B3CF3BD...

Trying again. Laptop's F9 Device Boot Menu: Now it's telling me "File too large" when I try to drag and drop it into the message. Unfortunately, "If you wish to attach one or more files enter the details below. You may also attach files by dragging and dropping them in the message box...

Does the forum software not work with .PNG files? I can try converting it to .JPEG, if that will make a difference.

It won't show the picture I uploaded. Even after I uploaded it twice.

Re: HP EliteBook 840 G5 Windows 10 Dual-Boot?
I would expect win10 to be installed on the internal M.2 drive in UEFI mode. It will have an EFI partition. I will see if I can upload a picture in a few minutes (updates, updates, updates). I looked at the drive several days ago, and saw multiple partitions. Assuming you want to install mint to th...

Hey, Wait a Minute...
So I've been worried about messing up what's on the SSD in the new laptop (Windows 10) if/when I set up a dual-boot configuration. But I've got a fully functional SSD sitting in the old laptop, too. It's pretty small, too (240-gigabyte) - and mostly full. In theory , I should be able to move my data...

Re: HP EliteBook 840 G5 Windows 10 Dual-Boot?
Huh. I just read: Open the Windows 10 Start menu, type powershell, and click "run as administrator." Next, enter the command WSL --install and press Enter. It will install the Virtual Machine Platform, Windows Subsystems for Linux, Linux Kernel, distro, and GUI App Support package. Once th...

Re: HP EliteBook 840 G5 Windows 10 Dual-Boot?
Great news! The old flash drive still works fine. It turned out to be the installation "disc" setup, not the actual installed version of Mint. That must be the one that failed and was thrown away. Makes sense; after my old hard drive died and I had to use it as my full time / only storage ...

Re: HP EliteBook 840 G5 Windows 10 Dual-Boot?
Apologies. Ended up having to wait on the laptop to arrive. It did - and I'm impressed. I don't think I've ever had anything as nice as this "cheap" (not in my world, but...) laptop. It's refurbished, so I assumed it would have some wear on it. There are two short (less than an inch each) ...

HP EliteBook 840 G5 Windows 10 Dual-Boot?
Hi, I've never really had to deal with this before. My last computer - a 2013 year laptop - was a Samsung that had Microsoft Windows 8.?, UEFI, secure boot. I wanted to retain that OS so that I could learn it to help other people if asked, and in case I found myself needing it (end up with a Windows...

Re: Linux Mint 20.3 “Una” Xfce – BETA Release
Are there any instructions for upgrading to beta versions? As it's only a Beta release, there's no way to upgrade to it. You'd have to install it from scratch. This is undoubtedly intentional (and for good reason). It's still in beta. While not exactly likely... it would be annoying(!) for someone ...

I have noticed tho on my older laptop tho that assault cube acts like they wanna open but it jus close out Same here; ran fine on Mint 19.3 (Xfce), won't run on 20.1. Re: Received New SSD - Would an Expert Help Me Format/Partition/Correctly Install Mint (This time), Please?
No, no Microsoft OS. Just two Mints and I guess a swap unless I can make that work on my messed-up magnetic hard drive. I just need them to be properly aligned and to get my FS Tab properly configured. All the temporary stuff in RAM will have to wait until I can get some. Might be next year, IDK. I'...

Re: Received New SSD - Would an Expert Help Me Format/Partition/Correctly Install Mint (This time), Please?
They are treated by the OS as no different to the spinning platter. I know that; that's the problem! I use a 120gb SSD for my / and /boot partitions. I use a mechanical hard drive (1TB) for my /home partition. My magnetic hard drive is pooched  . Therefore, everything has to go onto the SSD. W...

Re: Received New SSD - Would an Expert Help Me Format/Partition/Correctly Install Mint (This time), Please?
<BUMP> I just noticed that the USB flash drive I'm forced to use as a "hard drive" is too hot to touch for more than a moment. Are there no forum members who know how to correctly set up SSD and are willing to help others in some more useful way than merely suggesting I follow one of the i...

Re: Can't change background image since update
You replied to a seven-year old thread that was about a specific issue that hasn't been relevant for nearly seven years. In other words, that's not the issue that you are experiencing, lol. I just did a quick site-search of the Xfce community forum. Perhaps one of them will give you an idea or two. ...
