Re: conflicting report on whether or not Nvidia drivers installed properly

If you use Driver Manager to install a Nvidia driver that comes from the repositories, then you will see the message 1 proprietary driver in use . However, if you add the graphics-drivers PPA and then install a Nvidia driver in Driver Manager that comes from that PPA, then you will see the message N...

Re: Nvidia Drivers - Really NASTY screen tearing

I've tried setting this command, but it doesn't do anything. nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="HDMI-1-1:1920x1080_60 +0+0 { ForceFullCompositionPipeline = On }" That will only work if the HDMI port is connected internally to the Nvidia GPU. In the NVIDIA X Server Settings utilty on the X Se...

Re: Flickering lines / Mint 19 & Intel integrated GPU

Although this is not a major cause of flickering, anything that reduces the graphics processing demands can help minimize it. The MATE and Xfce desktops don’t require 3D graphics hardware acceleration as Cinnamon does. Also, those editions have other options for the Window Manager, which Cinnamon do...

Re: Flickering lines / Mint 19 & Intel integrated GPU

Try testing the kernel parameter i915.enable_psr=0 At the GRUB boot menu select the correct line but don’t press Enter. Press the “ E ” key to edit. If no menu shows, then hold down the shift key while starting. Use the Down arrow key to go down to the line that starts with: linux /boot/vmlinuz........

I would not be concerned about that if the screen resolution is correct, with no other display problems. Use this command and post the output: xrandr --prop

What is the model number of the TV?

Re: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti and Intel Graphic & Blender

The source of your problem may be different than that of user firepower. You’re using Mint 18.3, where GPU switching was handled differently. I don’t have any problem using the kernels available through Update Manager on my ASUS Optimus laptop. I tested the 4.15.0-23, 4.15.0-29, 4.15.0-34, and 4.15....

Re: Mint 19, Nvidia issues.

The Nvidia driver should not be loading on your system. However, during my extensive testing with Secure Boot enabled and disabled, I sometimes saw that the Nvidia driver would still load with Secure Boot enabled but this would only last for a limited number of restarts until the system finally reco...

Re: RX 470 wants to run at 30Hz instead of 60Hz refresh rate

I suggest removing the monitors.xml file: rm ~/.config/monitors.xml Use the xrandr command: xrandr -r 60 Open the Display program and click the Apply button. If that doesn’t help, then post the new monitors.xml file: xed ~/.config/monitors.xml Also post the output of inxi -SMCGx and xrandr --prop

Re: Mint 19, Nvidia issues.

the entire black screen on boot problem started when I disabled secure boot through the BIOS menu for a different reason but I re-enabled it within a short period of time. If Secure Boot is now enabled, then the Nvidia driver will be prevented from loading. What is the output of these commands: inx...

Re: NVIDIA card not being used as main card

The inxi output shows the Nvidia driver is now loading correctly. If you want to re-enable Secure Boot for an added layer of security, then the Nvidia kernel modules that were built during the Nvidia driver installation will need to be signed. Many distributions require modules to be signed with a t...

Re: Mint 19, Nvidia issues.

The suspend problem on laptops with Optimus technology, which I assume you have, when the Nvidia GPU is enabled, had not been solved for a long time, as discussed in this topic in the NVIDIA Linux Graphics forum: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1017185/linux/problem-with-resume-from-suspend...

Re: NVIDIA card not being used as main card

You previously installed a Nvidia driver which you downloaded from Nvidia’s website. Remove only that driver, if it has not already been removed, by adding --uninstall to the .run file. For example: NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-384.130.run --uninstall Also, use this command to remove this config file that go...

Re: NVIDIA card not being used as main card

For Optimus systems, which you have, the Nvidia driver should not be downloaded from Nvidia’s website because the nvidia-installer will overwrite the OpenGL libraries used by the Intel GPU, resulting in software rendering when the Intel GPU is selected. The info you posted shows you did that. Did yo...

Re: Mint 19: Ryzen 2200G grey empty desktop after installing amdgpu-pro-18.40-676022-ubuntu-18.04.tar.xz

After some more investigation, I’m still wondering how well the integrated Vega 8 graphics in the AMD Ryzen 3 2200G is supported by the amdgpu-pro driver. AMD says the Radeon RX Vega Series Graphics is supported, but the info on some web sites such as this says that series includes discrete cards, d...

Thanks for the tips on the mesa-va-drivers and mesa-vdpau-drivers . On Mint 19 without amdgpu-pro they indeed make vainfo give entry points. Because on my Mint 19 with amdgpu-pro drivers vainfo already shows entry points, I have not installed it there. Would it conflict it I did? The mesa-va-driver...

Re: Dual Graphic Cards with Triple Monitors

Using two Nvidia GPUs with the Nvidia driver is possible if the GPUs are identical or very similar, but there will be some problems using Mint Cinnamon. MATE or Xfce work better. Using two dissimilar GPUs is possible with the nouveau driver, but your ancient Riva TNT2 Model 64 GPU, which I assume is...

1. It appears that the xorg.conf file is not needed, if it is missing it find the proper drivers etc. It’s not needed most of the time. The only reason for using it was to rule out a system driver misconfiguration, which happened in the first xorg.conf file, where the vesa driver was listed. 2. The...
