Re: Cinnamon Crashes with Nvidia Driver

You installed bumblebee. What instructions did you use. Was there a problem using nvidia-prime? Usually both should not be installed at the same time.

The bumblebee project has not seen any new development in several years.

Re: Using 3 Monitors OK - but booting only possible with 1

Start your PC with all 3 monitors connected. When the screen freezes, reboot by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete . When you get to the desktop, use this command to open the Xorg.0.log.old file: xed /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old Press Ctrl+A to select the entire file contents. Right click on the screen and select ...

Re: Second monitor resolution

1. What is the brand and model number of the monitor?
2. What is the brand and model number of the USB-C to HDMI adapter or cable?
3. Use this command in the Terminal and post the output: xrandr --verbose

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

I did go into detail a lot more than I usually do because I also want this topic to be mini-guide that I can refer other users to, that have similar problems in Mint 19. Has switching to the Intel GPU eliminated the strange display issues you see after using the xrandr commands, until you restart Ci...

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

In Linux, using the nvidia-settings app, when using the Intel driver, the fan usually remains on low. When using the NVidia driver, the fan usually stays on medium or high, I'm not sure which. I really prefer to extend the life of my laptop as much as possible, so running with the Intel driver woul...

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

After booting up and running the commands you provided, it does still have strange display issues until I reload Cinnamon with CTRL-ALT-ESC. After doing that, I have not noticed any issues. You could try this command after using the other 3: xrandr --output HDMI-1-1 --mode 3840x2160_30.00 --pos 0x0...

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

It gave the error "xrandr: cannot find mode 3840x2160" That command would be used after using the other 3. Vizio says the TV has an effective refresh rate of 120 Hz. However, the actual rate is 60 Hz, which has been enhanced, as discussed in this article: https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/fake-refres...

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

I’ve often seen display problems after using xrandr commands. Sometimes using an additional command will help. In your case, it would be:

Code: Select all

xrandr --output HDMI-1-1 --mode 3840x2160 --rate 24 --pos 0x0
I won’t be back online until tomorrow. There’s more to discuss.

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

Here's a tip in case you're not aware of it, while using the Terminal or virtual Terminal like tty1. Press the UP Arrow key to bring up previously typed and executed commands, so you won't need to retype them. Keep pressing the key to bring up older commands. To display the command history, type: hi...

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

Well, I just confirmed that an xorg.conf file added to /etc/X11 is still being used, from testing I did in a Mint 19 beta installation. Here are the lines from the Xorg.0.log file: [ 12425.288] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" [ 12425.288] (==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X...

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

The xorg.conf file is still not listed in the Xorg.0.log file. Either it was removed or renamed after logging out and back in, or possibly it’s due to another change from Mint 18 to 19 and the file is not being read from that location. However, this location, from the log file, is still being read: ...

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

Mint 19 has also changed the commands used to give root authority for creating and editing files. I tested this command and it worked for me. Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

The log file should have a line saying the xorg.conf file is being used but there is none. I wonder if it was renamed after logging out and back in. Open the File Manager and go to /etc/X11 and check for an xorg.conf file or any file that starts with xorg.conf and has something added to it.

Re: Dell 7773 NVIDIA MX150 3840x2160 Resolution Missing

On previous Mint versions, there was a special xorg.conf file created when using laptops with hybrid graphics, when the Nvidia GPU was selected, but you have Mint 19 and there have been changes, so there is no xorg.conf file. Use this command to create one: EDITOR=xed sudoedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf In ...
