Re: rsync speed questions (cygwin, windows, readynas)

So I removed BitLocker on my D:\ drive in Windows 10, I format it in NTFS, made an rsync on it as a first pass to copy everything and then did the same test by going into the ReadyNAS in SSH, mounting the Windows D:\ drive and doing an rsync on it. And oh boy, took 1m04s the first time but second pa...

Re: rsync speed questions (cygwin, windows, readynas)

Thanks for the reply, most of it I know already but it is true that all the tests sending to my Windows on the mechanical HD is with BitLocker, the Linux external server do not have it, so for sure it adds some time, however, I went from 105m to ~3m always with BitLocker and most of my question is w...

Re: mp3gain missing

Awesome, it's working, thanks everyone! :P 8)  Soluion was so simple, simply needed to manually open https://launchpad.net/~flexiondotorg/+archive/ubuntu/audio/+files/mp3gain_1.5.2-r2-6~eoan1.0_amd64.deb Hopefully Martin Wimpress will update it and it will work again in the future with a...

[SOLVED] mp3gain missing

In the past, I used to do "sudo apt install mp3gain" but at some point it stopped working. Then, this used to work: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flexiondotorg/audio && sudo apt update && sudo apt install mp3gain Now it doesn't work with the error message Cannot add PPA: ''Th...

[SOLVED] rsync speed questions (cygwin, windows, readynas)

Hi everyone, it's a bit of software / networking problem and a bit Windows's Cygwin, might not be the best place to ask but I had great results in the past :) I'm trying to get more speed out of rsync. For a while now, I've been using cygwin's rsync on my Windows 10 laptop to synchronize from my Rea...

Re: LM19 - missing packages

I found pdfunite to replace pdftk, as easy to use also: pdfunite in1.pdf in2.pdf in3.pdf out.pdf I will go back to ffmpeg instead of avconv, it's confusing what happened to these projects. Fortunately, they're pretty much the same so all my avconv commands I saved will work with ffmpeg. Thanks a lot...

Re: LM19 Mate - Mouse speed not fast enough

It might be just me but is there any way to make it faster? In Windows, my keyboard speed is at the maximum and it's not fast enough. In Linux, they keyboard's speed is perfect. In Linux, my mouse speed is at the maximum and it's not fast enough. In Windows, my mouse speed is in the middle, it's per...

Re: LM19 - missing packages

Thanks, this is great information! With pdftk, it was for merging pdf files. Indeed, there's probably some other tool that will do the same job. I can find this. Like you said, I probably installed a PPA for network-manager-sstp before without writing it down. I was able to re-install it without pro...

LM19 Mate - Mouse speed not fast enough

Mouse speed used to be quite good in LM18.3 but now with LM19, it's slow, I need it to be faster. I haven't changed mouse, it's fast in Windows, I have the Acceleration and Sensitivity maxed out and the command xset doesn't work to try to make it faster.

LM19 - missing packages

Hi, I just installed Linux Mint 19 and I'm now missing packages. Where can I find pdftk, libav-tools (for avconv) and network-manager-sstp-gnome ?

In 18.3, they were all easily installed with apt install. Why would they be removed?

Re: Slow issue - New Linux Mint 18

Took me a while to find a solution! I formatted my computer 5 times to try different things. Problem is with the ultra wide-screen monitor. Solution is to format the computer with a regular 16:9 screen, install nvidia drivers and linux mint updates. Then switch off the computer and boot with the ult...

Re: Slow issue - New Linux Mint 18

So I went ahead and installed Linux Mint 17.2. Since I had this version before and it was working fine. Turns out that after 5h of uptime, Xorg is also taking up to 30% of my CPU! So now I really have to find out why it's lagging! I thought it would be the nvidia driver because in LM 18, in glxinfo ...

Re: Slow issue - New Linux Mint 18

uptime of 4 hours and it started slowing. There's like a slow lag of a fraction of a second every second. Sometimes a key on the keyboard won't register or a click. I'm sure at 100% it's not a temperature problem because my dual-boot computer in Windows is just fine but here's the result! inxi -s Se...

Re: Slow issue - New Linux Mint 18

I went into Driver Manager and used the driver for intel-microcode, it's a processor microcode firmware for Intel CPUs. But same problem, Xorg is taking too much CPU. I switched from Nvidia driver to nouveau, that worked in making Xorg run smooth, however: 1) When I boot, it takes a long time, the s...

Re: Slow issue - New Linux Mint 18

That is exactly my problem! Xorg is taking an average of 30% CPU usage. I formatted again and installed Cinammon instead of Mate. However I still have the same problem (and no BOINC installed)! Xorg should be taking 1-5%: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/HighCPU I don't have a GPU lockup. g...

Uptime of 7h24 and the lag just started. So it's not an issue with BOINC :(

Re: Slow issue - New Linux Mint 18

Thanks for the link! However, I don't think I have the same issue.

I'm not at 5h25 of uptime and no lag. Maybe it was BOINC going crazy, I suspended all activity and it seems to be working fine now.

Re: Slow issue - New Linux Mint 18

Took a long time to start slowing down this time. Uptime of 1h32 right now but it started slowing down at around 1h15.

I didn't do anything special before it started to crap out. Even if I close all applications, it still lags and I need to reboot.
