Re: LOL, Newegg misspelled "Windows"

You might be right, I should have looked to see if it was an option under the OS choices feature sorter box. lol

LOL, Newegg misspelled "Windows"

I was surfing Newegg for kicks, and thought I would check out the prices of their mini computers and NUCs these days. I had to screencap this, because I know lots of people intentionally misspell Windows and Microsoft just to show their displeasure with them. I'm pretty sure the IT guy at Newegg did...

Re: How To install a non-Wacom (Yiynova) tablet into Linux

...Set it to Mirror Mode . The Yiynova will not work properly in dual screen mode.[/list]... Looking into buying a Yiynova tablet but if this is true then I won't. There's no use having two monitors if they show the same content... How exactly does it not work properly? I have been without a workin...

Re: Are dark themes or light ones better for the eyes? (scientifically)

I just remember the black & white CRT tv my family had Now, why didn't I think of that? D'oh! As one of my other hobbies is restoring vintage TVs I do have a number of these so maybe I should try one with a nice big screen. I could temporarily feed the TV output into the house distrib...

Re: Are dark themes or light ones better for the eyes? (scientifically)

But hey, at least I'm not as bad as a friend of mine: he sees in greyscale! Achromatopia I believe. There was a programme on UK TV a few years ago "Island of the Colour Blind", fascinating. I bet he also struggles with daylight levels? It would be interesting to know how he gets o...

Re: Are dark themes or light ones better for the eyes? (scientifically)

if a color shade isn't far enough removed from it's parent color, I can't tell that it's a different shade (ex: light orange vs straight-up orange... both are straight-up orange?). That makes perfect sense if you can not see blue light. Not sure if the rods would pick up some of this though? Probab...

Re: What's your favorite native Linux game?

Several people have mentioned Neverwinter Nights 1, and since I absolutely love that game from my Windows days (one reason I still dual boot), now I'm gonna have to see about getting it to run in Linux too! OMG I love creating modules for that game. Other Linux games I love are: Minetest, and the Ma...

Re: Are dark themes or light ones better for the eyes? (scientifically)

I find that dark themes look awesome, but that I can't stare at them for more than a minute or so without eye strain and other problems. The bright white text on the black background ends up being glaring and if I look away from the screen I still see the text floating in front of my eyes, like when...

Datasheets for Broadcom chips being released to public

Good news for Linux users with Broadcom chips in their computers! I hope our drivers have a speedy improvement cycle once our devs get their hands on the data sheets. :D

Re: Remembering Husse

If we ever get around to H for the name of a Linux Mint version, I'd hope they consider naming it Husse in his remembrance. ^^This! Please, Clem! I have never had the pleasure of knowing Husse since I was not a Linux user back then, but I've come across his old posts. After reading his obituary and...

Re: I never see anyone talking about building Mint desktops!

I build my own computers from scratch and always have since I was a kid. My current one was built back when Mint 14 came out, my signature has it's build specs. While I am a Linux noob, I am no noob when it comes to building computers. I love doing it, with a passion. I'd do it for a living if I cou...

Re: All diskspace suddenly used up? 1TB-->13MB How to resto

I suspect logrotate. There is no way kern.log would baloon to well over 300G purely because logs are not rotated. There is definitely something spamming the logs. The error mentioned by OP doesn't tell me anything, unfortunately. Is it safe for me to just delete all of the above mentioned kern.log ...

Nope, still working on it. Was offline for several days due to work, so didn't have a chance to continue on this. Going to start trying out people's suggestions and see what happens. *fingers crossed*

Re: All diskspace suddenly used up? 1TB-->13MB How to resto

I have never used Bleachbit, but now I think maybe I should start using it? I asked that question because there have been multiple posts from people who used Bleachbit improperly and ended up with systems that showed full disks. Usually it was caused by them not letting it finish what it was doing ...

Re: All diskspace suddenly used up? 1TB-->13MB How to resto

Have a look at this link and try removing the file. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=171805 Also go to your var/log directory check how many copies of the kern.log and syslog are stored and remove all but the last four. Reading that link, the poster eventually ends with this: It seems my ...

Re: All diskspace suddenly used up? 1TB-->13MB How to resto

I turned on my computer this morning and was alerted by Mint that I am suddenly low on disk space. Do you by any chance use the Bleachbit program? I have never used Bleachbit, but now I think maybe I should start using it? Would it prevent this whole bloated log business from happening again? Havin...

Re: All diskspace suddenly used up? 1TB-->13MB How to resto

Before cleaning up: kern.log this size (343G) is far from normal. Clearly it is flooded by some error messages indicating there is a problem somewhere. List contents of the log, and you should see one, or one group of messages, repeated 1000s of times. Post them here. I tried to open the kern.log, ...
