Re: Your opinions on Windows 10 so far..

BTW those apps that you say can't be uninstalled can actually be uninstalled but you have to use Windows Powershell, I have a link below detailing how to do it (you can even remove Cortana and Edge but I wouldn't recommend it). So far though I think Windows 10 has been working quite well on my gamin...

Re: Will you upgrade to Win 10 upon release?

I installed it today (though I've been using it since it first went to public beta on a 2006 dell) and so far I've not had any issues that I would consider major (the only issue I had after the update was that I had to install win10 drivers).

Re: how to close apps on a smartphone?

Most apps should close when you go to the menu button and swip them away. However, some apps (like the carrier bloat apps) will still run even if you close them. In which case the only way to close them is too root and Uninstall them.

Re: OS X Experiences

Osx is ok (the only thing I don't like is the lack of a right click without a third party mouse or using gestures) however, be aware that you will be stuck using Apple hardware which while nice in quality, they are expensive and are less user servesible each year (the new 12in MacBook is impossible ...

Re: In what mode of the UEFI/BIOS, this installed windows 8.

You can install Mint (or any version of Linux) in UEFI mode and dual boot it with Windows 8.1. Dont know if secure boot will work (it might since Mint is Ubuntu based but I doubt it). Just remember if you take the Windows 10 upgrade and you dont have 2 HDDs (one for each OS) Mint will become unboota...

Re: Windows 10 to be free upgrade

That speak could mean 2 things:

1. Updates are only provided for 2-4 years 2 for home 4 for enterprise/pro

2. Customers will replace machines every 2-4 years and therefore make up deferred revenue

I will let you decide which one it is.

Re: Windows 10 to be free upgrade

^^ Unless you install the Insider Preview and sign in with a MS account to verify your in the program, in which case you get Windows 10 as long as you keep getting BETA builds. They say your machine must have Windows 7 or 8 for the TP but I don't really know how they will monitor or enforce it witho...

Re: Windows 10 to be free upgrade

^ Window 10 wont rewrite the UEFI (only a BIOS/UEFI update from the manufacturer does that) what will happen is that if you use one drive with 2 partitions, the Windows 10 update may ruin the GRUB boot loader (overwriting it with the Windows one) however this is fixable (not fun to fix but you can f...

So instead of paying money, you get to be their guinea pig if you are a insider (guess if the pirates don't mind beta software, this is a good way to get windows for free).

To move toward the theory of data collection: https://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindo ... ew-builds/

Good for Insiders who don't want to pay (like me) but it does push toward data collection on how MS is going to make money on this.

Re: BIOS detecting Linux USBs as USB-ZIP and not USB-HDD

^ As I said every USB creator I have tried does it. I also said that the sticks WILL boot on other PCs just not this one. This machine also supports booting from USB since it can boot a Windows 10 USB and install no problem. The issue is that the BIOS is detecting FAT32 drives as USB-ZIP and NOT as ...

Re: Windows 10 to be free upgrade

free for the life of the hardware you are running it on I wonder, how many people have thought about the - possible and IMHO likely - consequence: A mechanism to identify the hardware. And that leads quickly to the identifiable user. And that leads to the loss of any privacy. I wouldn't worry about...
