Re: The future of MDM?

In my opinion Lm should have it's own greeter, for example "mint-greeter" or something like that. Already done: slick-greeter is a fork of unity-greeter without Unity-specific stuff. It's briefly mentioned a few times in the blog comments. I think the next monthly news might have more details. Now ...

Re: The future of MDM?

Currently, LightDM is probably the best choice for the Mint 18 series. Because it's part of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, which is the codebase of Mint 18.x. This may change with the Mint 19 series, because that'll be based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, which will probably have GDM. I don't think MDM has a future; Clem...

Re: An average day with Linux Mint...

Here is my day to day list of "personal tasks" in this order: - Install updates to the OS or trying the latest kernels - Browsing the internet and this forum, and watching YouTube videos - Firefox - Playing some GNOME games - Playing retro games - DOSBox - Edit pictures - GIMP, Pinta - Listen to mus...

The future of MDM?

As you may already know from here: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3235 MDM days probably are over BUT this was written before the Ubuntu announcement about the end of Unity. What is the problem you may ask? Well, from now on Ubuntu will use GDM instead of LightDM as it's main DM and so unity-greeter w...

1. Why turn off fast boot?

2. I don't have this option too.

Which is the best Mint for Thinkpad X61?

Hello guys, recently I got Thinkpad X61 which came with Linux Mint Nadya MATE. As you know this version is unsupported (by the way runs pretty well) and my question is which version to succeed it? My current plans are for Mint 17.x but I wonder how good can be Mint 18.x considering the fact that the...

The new blue theme is not great but I hope that the security now is better. Also I changed my password too. :)

Re: Cinnamon trouble-- 17.3 Switch to Mate ?

Am I the only one who thinks that Cinnamon 2.8 is not so feature rich compared to Cinnamon 2.6 for example? I thought that Cinnamon 2,4 and 2,6 were had more features added when compared to the previous version--particularly the improvement of cinnamon-screensaver in Cinnamon 2,6. Not sure if that'...

Re: Cinnamon trouble-- 17.3 Switch to Mate ?

I will wait until the stable release and then play with Cinnamon which in fact is my favorite DE on MInt. :) However for the 17.3 release the Mate and the Xfce users are in better position than the Cinnamon users in terms of features. Am I the only one who thinks that Cinnamon 2.8 is not so feature ...

Some Nokia phones (newer but not smart phones) still have the "Snake" game. Cool stuff!

Re: LinuxMint a boring OS?

Yes, Mint is boring but sometimes the things should just work. ;) My adventure with OpenSUSE was easier than yours but still I was having a *funny* time after the install. For example some drivers were missing and I was desperate to find them, the repos (as in your case) were a job-to-do, the mp3 fi...

Re: Will Firefox Become Chrome 2.0?

I'm using Firefox since version 2.x (I remember the huge announcement for the "groundbreaking" version 3.0) good times... Like others I tried almost every available browser, I even liked and used Opera (just after the transition to FF 4.0) for a few months but then returned to FF again. What ...

I'm using LightMint17-3 right now (I just installed Enlightment-17 and am really enjoying it). And it updates and apt works; it's obviously still being supported.
Okay, now I get it, sorry for the wrong interpretation.

Re: KDE next is shaping up nicely!

A new version of KDE5 has been released today: 5.4 https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.4.0.php I like the changes in 5.4 but I'm still wondering how good it can be? They will work a few years on it, then it will be stable enough for daily usage and they will announce: "We will be releasing P...

That way there is nothing unnecessary onboard to slow the system down.
I have no problems with Arch but I haven't got patience to configure every single bit of it. About Gentoo - it's a little complicated for me. :P
