Re: ASUS laptop suitable for LM?

I have an ASUS laptop that originally came with Win8, and I can verify that the partitions will look pretty strange. But aside from the secureboot and EFI things, it plays really nicely with linux. As for Win8 itself... well, I switched it down the line to Win7, if that says anything to you.

transparency on mintMenu? [SOLVED]

I'm trying out some different looks for my desktop, and I started messing with the transparency on the MATE panels. When the opacity is at full, and is a solid color, the mintMenu button, using the "use desktop theme" option, will actually change to that same color. But it won't adjust tra...

Re: Turcom/Huion Tablet - no pressure sensitivity in WINE

I got it working! Some deeper digging led me to the digimend project, and it turns out that installing their package huion-tools ( https://github.com/DIGImend/huion-tools/blob/master/README.md ) and running it enabled the 'proprietary mode' that is listed as a side-effect in the mentioned link. I'll...

Re: Turcom/Huion Tablet - no pressure sensitivity in WINE

Huion, from what I can see, is in an interesting place for linux drivers. As I said, it works out of the box in programs like Gimp, but anything based on qt or through WINE won't work... I ran xinput list-props as one thread on the ubuntu forums said to do, but my output is so radically different fr...

SOLVED! Turcom/Huion Tablet: no pressure sensitivity in WINE

I just got a Turcom TS-6580 graphics tablet for the holidays, which is apparently created by the people at Huion since it uses the same drivers and is pretty much identical to their stuff. Got it working in Windows 8 with some hassle, switched over to Linux to see if I could configure it to work... ...

LM15 Mint Menu unable to edit menu

When I right click on the Mint Menu applet and select "Edit menu", it never does anything. And I can't find a place in the control center to be able to edit the menu options, either. This is becoming really problematic because I want to add a launcher for minecraft in the menu, but I don't...

Re: Mate vs. Cinnamon

Looking up Mate-core in Synaptic the description says The MATE Desktop Environment, a non-intuitive and unattractive desktop for users, using traditional computing desktop metaphor. They're joking right? I think it's a jab at how companies like Microsoft with Windows 8, and Apple, and even Ubuntu w...

LMDE or 13 for a minecraft server?

I am getting my old netbook set up as a very small, personal minecraft server for myself and a few friends, so at least it doesn't sit around doing absolutely nothing. My question is a matter of which install to go with. I was thinking 13 LTS would be a good idea because it'd be stable and have a lo...

What prompted your move to linux?

I've been seeing a lot of talk lately about Windows 8 being likely to prompt a lot of users to linux because of their issues with no traditional start menu... and it got me thinking about what actually prompted my move to linux! When I got my netbook a few years back, it came standard with Windows 7...

Re: Install Mint without Grub?

Just popping in to say that I overwrote everything on my old netbook and put Mint 15 on it, and it hasn't once shown me a boot select screen. I don't think you'll have any problems with that.

Re: GIMP tutorial for a non-techie

If your wife absolutely insists on Photoshop, CS2 was recently released for free , and runs very well under wine. It has full graphics tablet support, and even if it is "outdated" as far as photoshop goes, it's going to have all the stuff she's likely to need, or even want, as an amateur p...

Re: Texet USB dongle

Hi, pete_uk! What you have is what's usually called a "tarball". Assuming that you haven't already extracted the tarball into a folder, there's a decently easy way to get it set up, all of it from the terminal. Go ahead and open up your terminal, then type the following in here, replacing ...

Re: Intuos 4 setup - baby steps please

This appears to be an oversight on the dev's part. If you don't mind waiting a little bit, you could contact Clem at the Segfault blog( http://segfault.linuxmint.com/ ) and he and the dev team can get a patch for this rolled out pretty quickly. But if you're not up to waiting for the fix to be relea...

Does that mean that Mint is getting popular enough for spammers to try and bypass the bots? :P

What's with all the spam bots?

It seems like they're everywhere and growing in number! I know the mods are doing the best they can, and I applaud them for that, but it seems like they're getting to be too much for them to handle :(
