Re: Building a PC just for linux?

Hi Akanbe, No this is not silly, when I purchased my current PC I kept in mind that I wanted to run Linux on it. I went the budget way, I purchased a Compaq desktop since I new it would have the general hardware that would be compatible. The PC I chose had Nvidia chipset for sound and ethernet so I...

Building a PC just for linux?

So, I'm thinking about building a computer and mainly just running Linux on it. It would be my main computer. I was thinking of building a mid-level PC so I could install (or emulate) Windows 7 at some point down the line since there will probably be some PC game I will eventually want to run on it....

Re: Mint Felicia - Error 22 while booting

Yep, that's most likely the problem. I've had that problem in the past but have been able to get around it by messing with the boot code (ex: dev/sdb3 -ro quiet splash) or some other way, but none of the previous ways work this time (first time i've actually gotten error 22. Before it was other stuf...

Mint Felicia - Error 22 while booting

Hey guys and gals, Is there any way around the Error 22 boot message? I only found one thing in the wiki (which deals with uuids... i could never get the right permission on a live cd to change those files) and looked through 12 pages of this forum and have found nothing (search function won't work ...

Re: Strange Things Happening

Ah, I have the same problem, but with slightly different text (but all the basic stuff is still there). I have 1 IDE disk and 1 Sata disk (sda) and when Mint loads, even though the partition is on sdb3 it doesn't seem to want to load. I tried messing around with boot/grub/device.map and menu.lst but...

Re: Installing with 2 hard drives HELP

Why install different partitions for /, /home, etc?

I've seen them in gparted and always just used /, not realizing the other parts were useful as well. What would be the benefits of doing like the above posters mentioned?

What is the stable release going to be? Will it be RC2, a beta, or the regular release? Sorry, I am unfamiliar with how these things work :)

Re: Installing on seperate HDs

I have a similar problem as well I have XP on an IDE disk and an extra harddrive on a SATA-link for multimedia. XP will not recognize my KDE install on my primary (IDE) drive. I can go into the live CD and see all the files are there, but under the XP system manager there is no choice to boot into L...

Re: Extremely Blurry screen

Thanks for the quick reply. It's possible the grub error was at 95% during the installation. The screen was so blurry that it was difficult to read the text. Right now, I'm not too worried about the grub problem since there seems to be a lot of topics (and information) about it. Once I get the blurr...

Extremely Blurry screen

Hello all, First off, great job on Mint. I've gotten to play around with it a little bit and it's great. Onto the problem I'm having. My girlfriend was gracious enough to let me install a Mint partition on her intel based iMac until I get my computer (ordering it online eventually). However, I canno...
