Re: Tiny fonts and dialogues in some apps

So it turns out that [user]smurphos[/user] is right, and Zoom is a Qt app. InSync is too. And Qt looks for environment variables that can fix the problems I was having: QT_SCALE_FACTOR and QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR. In my case, QT_SCALE_FACTOR=2 produced the best results, but QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_...

Re: Tiny fonts and dialogues in some apps

I'll post back here if I find an answer, but in case anyone else is following along, I've found an additional thing to try on StackOverflow.

Re: Tiny fonts and dialogues in some apps

Zoom is I think QT based? You may have some luck configuring font sizes in the QT Settings app which you should find in the menu. Hey, wow! I've coded Qt apps, but I had no idea there was a Qt configuration app like this! I've tried changing the settings, but they don't seem to affect Zoom. Is this...

I'm guessing you've have got a HIDPI display?
I'm honestly not sure—I'll have to research a lot of what you're talking about here. But I'm only using gimp 2.8.22, so I'll try updating to 2.10 to see if that works better. Cheers.

Are those apps Flatpaks or regular apps?
I had a quick look at what a flatpak is, and I don't think they're those. I installed gimp with Aptitude; Zoom and Insync were `.deb` files, and NetExtender was a tarball that came with an installation script.

Re: Tiny fonts and dialogues in some apps

Hi. Thanks, but that only affects the text that are already the correct size. Like I said, it's only some applications, like Zoom, InSync and gimp that have this issue; most apps, like Chrome, Slack, and Cinnamon itself, are fine, and I don't want to mess with those. I don't think it's a Cinnamon se...

Tiny fonts and dialogues in some apps [SOLVED for Zoom, Insync and other Qt apps]

G'day peeps, While most third-party apps look great in my Mint 19 installation: vim, Chrome, Slack, etc., a few of them have tiny dialogues and fonts, which make them very difficult to use. The main offenders are gimp and the Zoom netmeeting app, and now one of my clients needs me to use a Java-base...

Re: How to add encryption when installing with "something else" option? [solved]

My 'something else' for my new Mint 19 installation was putting /home on a partition on a different drive, and encrypting that partition too. I ended up skipping 'something else' and installing with all the defaults, and then creating an encrypted partition using the Gnome Disk Utility, manually mes...

Re: Mint 17.X, 18.X and 19 Full Disk Encryption (directory /boot included)

Thanks, @linux22! I seem to have muddled along far enough so far; /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab weren't as complicated as they initially looked. ☺ Thanks for the tops about hibernating; I'll give those a go soon. We're starting to drift off topic, but were the data losses you talked about anything mo...

Re: Linux Mint 19 FDE across multiple drives—the right way?

For anybody who finds this post with the same question, I've managed to get my system set up across drives. I'm afraid I don't have a reliable step-by-step guide, but it seems to be working well, and I'm feeling fairly confident that upgrades won't foul things up. I'll report back here when I can co...

Re: Search Tool For Cinnamon

Just tried Catfish; it's very rudimentary, unfortunately. I haven't managed to get gnome-search-tool installed in Mint 19; 'Package "gnome-search-tool" has no installation candidate'. I can download the Debian package, but maybe it's been removed from the default repo because a more integrated tool ...

Where is file search?

The problem with locate is that the results are only as up-to-date as the last time updatedb was run, and it often produces a firehose of irrelevant results. It does weird things with permissions, too; I think sudo locate uses a different database from user locate , which may not be as up-to-date. g...

Re: [Solved] Problem With Full Disk Encryption Using System, Swap & Home Partitions

I'm not bored with it at all, just a little frustrated, since it seems you posted a link to something that might help me, http://thesimplecomputer.info/full-disk-encryption-with-ubuntu, but that link is not working for me. :( I've been trying to make a Mint 19 FDE setup work on multiple drives, not ...

Re: Mint 17.X, 18.X and 19 Full Disk Encryption (directory /boot included)

Hi @linux22! I do appreciate these guides, but I still haven't managed to get what I want, which is a multi-drive Mint 19 system (/home on its own drive) with FDE on each drive. It'd be really great if hibernate to worked in such a setup, too, since i'm tired of having to reboot everything from scra...

Re: Linux Mint 19 FDE across multiple drives—the right way?

Perhaps hibernate will work fine if you let the installer handle everything for FDE or even with custom install.
I'd love to try. How do I have the installer handle the FDE with my custom installation? I've never seen the option for that.

Re: Linux Mint 19 FDE across multiple drives—the right way?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for taking a long time to get back; I had to put this on the back burner again. It's a whole lot easier if you don't need hibernate to work with disk encryption or don't need the swap partition (or you'd be okay with leaving swap unencrypted which is silly of course :)). ...

Linux Mint 19 FDE across multiple drives—the right way?

Hi everyone, I've seen questions like this asked a lot, but I haven't found the answers very helpful, either because they don't do quite what I want , suggest something that seems unsatisfactory , or gloss over steps and go over my head . What I want: Linux Mint 19 (nothing else—no dual boot or anyt...

Re: Unwanted Mystery Box Hovers in the Corner of My Cinnamon Desktop

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I've updated to Cinnamon Mint 18.2 now, and I haven't seen the box since. Whatever the problem was, it obviously got fixed somewhere along the line.

Re: Unwanted Mystery Box Hovers in the Corner of My Cinnamon Desktop

I just deleted the comment I wrote yesterday, where I said I was about ready to assume Skype was the culprit, because less than an hour later, I was proven wrong. The box was back, even though I haven't launched Skype in weeks. However , the box appeared around the time I signed up to participate in...
