Re: My cinnamon config not loading after this update?
Okay, so I decided to just try logging out and back in, before anything more drastic, and everything's fine now. Some weird hiccough when I started Cinnamon earlier this morning, I suppose, probably nothing to do with the update—the messages I copied from .xsession-errors aren't there this time. I'm...

Re: My cinnamon config not loading after this update?
Do you have a Timeshift snapshot you can restore from before you took the update? Thanks. I wasn't sure, but it looks like I do. Can I just click on one of the backups, and it will work? Honestly, the one time I previously tried to restore a Timeshift, it didn't really work—my system drive turned o...

[Solved? (Fixed itself?)] My cinnamon config not loading after this update?
I've been using Cinnamon for many years, and yesterday I updated the kernel using the software manager fairly routinely—it's now 5.4.0-166-generic, still running Mint 20.2. The only thing I did differently was shut down the whole system when it was finished, instead of just restarting, because it wa...

Re: Notifications get in the way
Thanks, people. But like I said, I don't want to turn them off; I just don't want them to get in the way. I used to get just as many notifications and that was fine; something's just changed in the way they're handled, and I want to change it back.

Notifications get in the way
When I resume a Mint 20.2 Cinnamon session in my laptop, there are often dozens of notifications to clear, about emails, websites, network connections and more. I do want to see these, but having to close them all is really annoying, especially because they get in the way of tabs I want to click, et...

Re: How to remove 'Extra' printer entry in xed?
How can I remove this entry "Brother-MFC-J485DW" which is I suppose more of an annoyance than a real functional problem. Did you ever solve this? I have only one printer, and when I go to Mint's printer setup (system-config-printer), it's the only one it knows about. But the print dialogu...

SOLUTION: Installing Gimp Liquid Rescale plug-in
Gimp (latest revision) and Liquid rescale plugins are available as flatpaks. Good enough. I did this: flatpak install org.gimp.GIMP flatpak install org.gimp.GIMP.Plugin.LiquidRescale flatpak run org.gimp.GIMP And now Liquid Rescale is there. Not only that, but I can actually see my filesystem in Gi...

Re: Installing Gimp Liquid Rescale plug-in
To install it on a Debian/Ubuntu Linux, run: sudo apt-get install gimp-plugin-registry Thanks, mate, but if you read my question carefully, you'll see that I tried that. I also linked to a post that says this won't work. Also, I'm not running straight Debian or Ubuntu—this is a Mint forum. I'm look...

SOLVED: Installing Gimp Liquid Rescale plug-in
(Apologies if this is not the right forum. I've searched for questions about this plug-in, package and Gimp, and they all seem to be here. If there's a better place, please point me to it.) I'm running Mint 20.2 (yes, I'll update soon), which comes with Gimp 2.10.18. I want to use the Liquid Rescal...

Re: Linux Mint 20.2 won't 'Suspend' session on ThinkPad P51
Suspending is working quite reliably now. I didn't consciously change anything immediately before this became true, so my best guess is that it got fixed in a software update. I won't mark this as 'solved', because this thread doesn't contain a reliable solution. But thanks, everyone, for your input.

Re: Linux Mint 20.2 won't 'Suspend' session on ThinkPad P51
I suspect this is because I don't normally have sda mounted. It's an unencrypted spinning metal drive that I only use occasionally. It's also never had WIndows on it.Larry78723 wrote: ⤴Wed Oct 13, 2021 8:29 am Why is sda not showing in your inxi report but shows in lsblk?
Cheers.

Re: Linux Mint 20.2 won't 'Suspend' session on ThinkPad P51
Thanks, people. Like I said, it's a Linux-only system. The system drive is new, and neither drive has ever had Windows on it. I can't explain the two swap partitions. I created the 69GB one when I installed the new OS, but had no idea the second one was there until you pointed it out. The Disks util...

Linux Mint 20.2 won't 'Suspend' session on ThinkPad P51
My Lenovo P51 is a Linux-only system that's never had any problem with suspending, until I updated to Mint 20. Now I have the same problem as the OP [in this thread ], every time. One other thing I did change is the display driver, as recommended by the System Reports application, but I've changed i...

SOLVED: Software updates/apt applet missing from panel
So the Update Manager applet is actually part of an XApp Status Applet, which also contains the Bluetooth status and other icons. It had actually gotten moved to a hidden panel somehow. Once I moved it back to where I expected it, everything was cool and fruity.

Re: How to set up an encrypted swap partition in Mint 20?
Did you ever figure this out? It looks like you would need one of the more complex options to support suspend to disk. Partial Solution I still haven't got hibernation working under Mint 20, but I do have an encrypted swap partition now. I can't exactly remember the details; I might've ended up usi...

SOLVED: Software updates/apt applet missing from panel
G'day peeps, Somehow, the software update manager/apt applet is missing from my panel, on my Mint 20 Cinnamon system, the one that displays a shield with a tick when all my software is up-to-date. I certainly know how to add applets to the panel, but I don't know the name of the applet I need. I've ...

Re: How to set up an encrypted swap partition in Mint 20?
I can't think why would you want an encrypted swap? I can't see it serving any purpose. Maybe you know more than me, but I'm pretty sure that, upon hibernation, the contents of RAM gets written to the swap partition. I assume it gets written in the clear, so that if my laptop gets nicked while it's...

PARTIALLY SOLVED: How to set up an encrypted swap partition in Mint 20?
My old SDD kept going into read-only mode, so I've replaced it, and am in the process of installing Mint 20 on it. Luckily, I kept /home on an entirely separate drive. But, perhaps less luckily, this means that I've had to choose the 'something else' option in the installer. My old setup had an unen...
