Re: Rumor Mill at it again, but disturbing.

At one time when MS cast it shadow across the Linux landscape it was much more relevant then it is today. In the future I suspect it will mean even less.

Re: Linux security no longer a non-trivial issue?

I always ask myself how many people do I know who have gotten burned and then act accordingly. Happily I haven't seem big/any numbers on this threat yet and the local user group is clean too.

Re: Powerful Linux Trojan called Turla

My acid test for threats is this forum, how many real users are looking for help repairing the damage caused by the latest killer problem versus the blogger hype. Then I go get another coffee and enjoy using one of the most secure OS’s out there.

While looking for a fix I pulled a USB ethernet dongle up so I could keep searching. Not a fix but the box is back on the net.

Re: Still unready for Prime Time?

Use one OS you have to deal with one set of challengers and rewards, use another and you get another set of challenges and rewards. That is just the nature of reality so you can either deal with it, suffer or go find something better. That one of the reasons many of us are here, its just better.

Re: your opininons about pirated/illegally downloaded materi

H Enforcing/not enforcing laws do not make them go away.

I was commenting on the relevance and utility of a law when I said "If a law can't or won't be enforced then the law itself is irrelevant as a form of control in the real world ."

Re: your opininons about pirated/illegally downloaded materi

Hinto: And opinion really doesn't matter when it comes to the law. That's legal/illegal. Opinion only comes into play when passing judgement. If a law can't or won't be enforced then the law itself is irrelevant as a form of control in the real world . So it then comes down to a question of personal...

Re: your opininons about pirated/illegally downloaded materi

Piracy isn't a matter of (moral) opinion. It is defined by law (which has little to do with morality) it's a matter akin to Plagiarism -H I know that, I was commenting on folks who do see piracy a moral question, which they can but that will do very little to suppress the practice.. As to the legal...

Re: your opininons about pirated/illegally downloaded materi

Making piracy a moral question doesn’t do much as a preventative. Content suppliers need to figure out a different marketing model to protect themselves. What that model is I don't know but what they have now has never worked very well. I wish them luck.

Re: Games on linux

Look at the resources being used and which services you can shut down to free up resources. I use htop to get a look at what is being used, which is available in the Mint repositories. As to something specific to Cinnamon, sorry I don't use it so I can't be that much help but now you at least have a...

Re: 'Bash' virus?

I don't worry about it. I keep my security updates current, watch what gets downloaded and what gets run. While that doesn’t guarantee safety I have yet to get stung with that approach.

Re: Current situation of LMDE concering updates?

As I mentioned in my last post I am already preparing to do that. Don't worry, you'll be rid of me soon. I don't want to be rid of you. I honestly don't really care if you stay or if you leave. I was just thinking that if you don't want to go to Debian or if you don't want to use LMDE2 the options ...

Re: OEM

Why don't they have a 32bit OEM version? Vendors do sell 32bits laptops with LM on them, cause I have one and I got it on eBay last month. The laptop is my Acer Aspire One Nav50. Acer released a 32 bit version of Linux for use on this model line, perhaps you could look into that. If memory serves i...
