No bluetooth on Sarah 18

When clicking on Bluetooth in the Menu, I get " No Bluetooth adapters found". I have been on 17.3 with no problems. I tried LM 18 off USB stick and had the same notice, no bluetooth. But while trying LM 18 this morning it showed up and connected to my JBL speaker. Not sure why, but everything was wo...

Re: How to do the Steps to verify an ISO image

Thanks ibbill for starting this thread and to all that replied. I also learned how to verify an ISO. I am fairly new, but have found my way around Linux pretty good. With the new Mint out, I was thinking about trying out Mint 18 but wanted to check the ISO before loading it. Thanks everyone, I went ...

Re: Dr. Who-related question...

I have just asked my 8yr old DR who guru, & after a 2 second think he came back with this (The Master race - Doctor Who: The End of Time ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UszT_L4QWII That sounds right to me or close. I remember that episode after you mentioned it. I am a big Dr Who fan but so many ...

Re: Hostage Escaping Windows...

Welcome to Linux Mint ! I am like you, leaving the Windows camp. I loaded Mint on my laptop back a few months and learning all I can. The desktop still has 7, but it will be next to enjoy Mint as I get a handle on it. I found so far, the transition has been pretty easy for me, tho I am the type to d...

Early Linux Mint impression

Just thought I would say how pleased I am that I chose Linux Mint. I played around with it a few years back, dual boot with XP ( Mint 13 ) on an old Toughtbook CF29. Now,after a few months of steady use ( only OS on my newer laptop ), I find I am not liking W7 on my desktop as much. As I get more fa...

Re: Simple question about aggraving flashing LED

Funny, Fred's suggested site didn't work. When I got my Hp Elitebook a couple months ago, I immediately loaded Linux Mint 17.3 on it. Found the wifi light blinking and finally one night decided to see if there was a fix. Found Alex's site and applied the latest fix ( 2012-11-25 Update! ), which is w...

Re: You can't fully disable Win10 spying

"Stay in there" means in my understanding: Nothing gets outside. If we agree, that W10 is spying, then there is no reason, that it will not do this from the VM. Result: Information gets outside, inclusive private information, that you would not want to share, e.g. your public IP[1]. Further more al...

Re: You can't fully disable Win10 spying

I have Win 10 running in VB because a friend has it on their laptop and is always asking my questions when she has problems. So I am trying to learn a little about it for her. I also have Win 7 in the VB because I have been using Quicken for years and hate to change. Anyway, does everything that hap...

Re: No sound with 17 on Dell 8100

Thanks yaye, I will give the sliders a try. I believe the install completed fine, I got pop up at end saying it did. I am just assuming card and drive because she had problems with them when it had XP on it. But as I said, the install seemed to finish fine and other than those problems, everything e...

Re: No sound with 17 on Dell 8100

I did some testing again with other versions. I now have sound after loading Mint 17.1, 32 bit. I then upgraded to 17.3.It now shows Santa Cruz in the volume control. I will post terminal output later. Anyway, after talking to her and remembering what she had originally told me, she had issues runni...

No sound with 17 on Dell 8100

I am helping a friend out that had XP on this desktop. I loaded Linux Mint 17.2 ( tried a couple other versions ) and is working okay so far but no sound. I upgraded to 17.3 after loading 17.2. The volume control shows " Dummy output " System: Host: kim-Dimension-8100 Kernel: 3.16.0-38-generic i686 ...

Re: PPA's: the main security Achilles heel?

I see many forum threads advising non-repository software solutions to new users, and even posting sudo commands for adding the ppa's. This teaches new users to add ppas in a willy-nilly fashion--having never seen cautionary statements regarding the possible risks. I am guilty of this as I tried a ...

Re: Linux Mint on older laptop

Mint Cinnamon 17.3 x64 runs just fine on my nine-year-old ex-WinXP laptop. Core2 Duo CPU with 4GB RAM. Yours should be more than OK... I agree with Juan. I did some research into a used laptop to run Linux Mint on. I narrowed it down to an older HP Elitebook, model 6930p. It is 64 bit Core2Duo, 2.53...

Finally here

Hi everyone. After joining a couple years ago, I am finally ready to go. I had downloaded Mint 13 to an old CF-29 Toughbook ( dual boot with XP ) to play around with years ago. I have gotten used to it over the years and still learning. Last month I decided to get a newer laptop but didn't want Win1...

Just sent my donation. Glad to help. After playing with Linux Mint for a few years ( dual boot on old laptop with XP ), I had decided last month to upgrade to a newer laptop and run Mint full time. I am converting over.... :D
