The Mint 8 KDE RC1 Niggles Thread

Just thought I'd keep this a bit clearly separated so the devs can see it, and I'll update my post with things as and when they hit me. [*] Menu -> Internet -> Tucan Manager has no secondary text, and I had no idea what it actually was. So I opened it, and a menu appeared with a lot of different ser...

Re: Helena KDE CE update

Well i put my iso on a usb stick (downloaded from the torrent) and it didnt work ... just a black screen after I choose whatever option (boot or install or check dvd) ... so I will try to re-download it from the ftp, and if it still doesnt work then I think this RC will not work on my pc! I will ke...

Re: Helena KDE CE update

Honestly I'd rather do too much testing than not enough. Agreed. While it probably is "good enough" for most members here to use, once you start saying "Oh, it's good enough. We'll sort anything else out later!" it's a slippery slope. Much respect to all that've put work in to making sure everythin...

Re: The State of KDE (2009 in Review)

I can tell you that since I installed Mint KDE CE 7, I did do a big bit of distro-hopping again to check out the competition. And now, well, I'm back to Mint KDE CE 7. The packages may be ever so slightly dated as we await version 8, but I can honestly say that it's still my favourite. No other dist...

Boo's said that once the 32 bit one is out the door, he'll get cracking on a 64 bit one. At least, that's the plan, right now.

Re: Helena KDE CE update

@Boo - Is there a Twitter/Identi.ca feed to follow for updates, in the same fashion as the Main one? No bother if not, I'm just incredibly nosey, really! Boo gives occasional reports on his progress here. The new release will be worth the wait. :D Oh, aye, I'm certainly not complaining about any la...

Re: Helena KDE CE update

I can't wait to see the next version, I'm actually satisfied enough with the current one that I've not even bothered trying out Main 8 yet. As I'm sure most people would agree, one of the reasons Mint is better than Ubuntu is that it isn't released to a "hard" deadline even if it's not ready - I'd m...

Re: Disabling login & logout sounds?

What you need to do, mate, is go to System Settings, Notifications (it's under Look & Feel). Make sure "System Notifications" is highlighted on the left, and the "Applictions" tab is selected (it's this way by default). Change the "Event Source" to "KDE System Notications". In the list of events you...

Re: Just tried Mint KDE CE...

Heya Ikey. Yeah, I've not been around in the IRC much lately due to not having as much free time to do such things as I used to. Most of my free time lately has been spent playing Modern Warfare 2, scarily. I decided to at least make some sort of post upon trying out Mint KDE, because I know quite a...

Re: Just tried Mint KDE CE...

Ah, yes, I used your post on how to make Firefox look "KDE4-ish", I do believe. I'll add your blog to my RSS feeds, looks like it could be quite interesting. I can't wait to see how both editions of Helena turn out - I'm not sure which I'll end up running full time, but for any other distro to be be...

Just tried Mint KDE CE...

...and am very pleasantly surprised. Being a KDE3 man back in "the day" due to Gnome not having enough options for me (without going in to setting keys and making text files, at any rate), I thought KDE4 was a big pile of < snip! - Ed>. Also having always learnt with Debian distros, tried Kubuntu an...

Many, many thanks for this post - I had a similar issue with Transmission, and after Googling for a while didn't come up with anything, this fixed it.

Re: Wireless Xbox 360 Controller w/ Play & Charge Kit?

Just to let you know before you get too frustrated, the Play and Charge kit doesn't have a wire to send control information. It's purely a wire for charging. When that guide refers to a USB pad it means the old ones with a hard-wire moulded in to it . To get your pad to work, you'll need to purchase...

Aw, man, sorry Husse I didn't get an email about this thread and assumed noone replied in it, my bad.

All I did was Google-Fu - there was talk about the same issue on Debian Sid, I just stole their ideas and applied them to Mint

Re: Installation Problem NVIDIA 9500 GT Driver

Hullo, chaps. I got this error tonight when I was compiling some new drivers up, and thought I'd let you know my solution. When running the NV script, append some options telling it where to put the 32bit stuff. ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2.run --compat32-prefix=/usr --compat32-libdir=lib32 ...

Re: Pidgin Static Sounds [SOLVED]

Appears to work for me.

My setup has PulseAudio turned off, but it was doing it under ALSA too.

Good call.
