nouveau not being removed by DDM Device Driver Manager

LMDE 201303 RC MATE 32bit. I'm trying to get the nvidia 173 driver setup and to replace nouveau with DDM Nouveau won't stand aside. I've also checked grub2 and updated it in case of new kernel appends etc.. Does anyone have nvidia 173 running? lsmod |grep nouveau nouveau 490603 2 mxm_wmi 12433 1 nou...

Re: Firefox 6,7,8,lost function of Forward & Back BUTTONS [S

solved
also affected FF 9 & 10

I kept an existing FF profile that is quite old and contained a lot settings
pref.js
was the culprit.
Delete it and let FF rebuild an unbloated one
and the buttons will return

FF help page will suggest gtk theme settings are the issue, not the case

Re: jpilot not syncing [SOLVED]

Sync requires user to be part of these groups:
dip
dialout

Why? I don't know the rationale.

May I suggest that Mint have users added to those groups on install or add user

Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers - Install Guide

I tried nvidia-xorgconfig it did not produce a working X you should do nvidia-xconfig I made a typo. From another distro I deleted the LMDE /etc/X11/xorg.conf and rebooted to LMDE. It gave me a vesa X, which was a start. I reinstalled the proper nvidia list for my card. It worked. xorg.log does a s...

jpilot not syncing

I've used jpilot for a long time and I'm stumped by this error.
my pda shows up on lsusb
and my working jpilot settings have not changed, but now there is no syncing.
Is there a "group" setting at play here?

note if you try to remove nouveau from synaptic it will attempt and balk at removing essential programs.

Re: possible login abuse that blocks user=forced kanji CAPTC

I use firefox built in password manager with a master password. I also use passwordsafe3. I've compared passwords and used cut & paste. No addon is blocking login. Before I can even attempt to login I'm faced with "You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your userna...

Re: Firefox 6 & 7 lost function of Forward & Back BUTTONS &

as I stated above I disabled addons and reset toolbars. That did not work. I deleted places.sqlite That did not work. I compared the file permissions from another user on LMDE with my FF user files and the only difference was places.* files had permissions "user":users for the other user so I change...

LM11 gnome file system suicide avenue

along with pulseaudio nothing I've experienced is as horrid (an I mena horrid) as gvfsd is to your memory. Why bother with windows instability when gnome filesystem can HARD hang your system simply by moving more files than your free memory. THIS IS A MONUMENTAL FAIL! If you have 1G of memory and mo...

I'm wondering if this related to the kernel address collision,
could it be a kernel that uses LPT addresses for something else,
off to look at the kernel (oh by the way, we screwed more legacy devices) release notes
