Re: Anyone else get flickering desktop backgrounds and windows periodically on NVIDIA cards in Cinnamon?

I am using the Nouveau Driver and have the exact same effect. Black Boxes randomly appearing on the second screen and being really annoying and flickering. GTK CSS fix applied but did not work. As I use the Nouveau Driver and _not_ the NVIDIA driver, I daresay it's nothing to do with the NVIDIA driv...

Re: Flashing black borders around windows with Nvidia-390 and Mint 19

I am using the nouveau open source driver on a freshly installed Linux Mint 19 Tara with Cinnamon 3.8.9 and as soon as I connect my second monitor via VGA and open up a terminal window black boxes appear. They appear not only around the window but also as a flickering black box somewhere else on the...

Re: how to unlock install media screensaver

I have the same problem. I just ran the BETA from DVD and am in the screensaver. Apparently there is no Login button, so I pressed on an icon that looked like people. I am now stuck in a screensaver that says "Press F1 to enter a username" but if I enter "mint" with no password, ...

Re: Workspaces / Virtual Desktops no prefs no applet in Mate

Right click panel -> add to panel -> workspace switcher -> right click the switcher -> preferences Thanks. I know that. But how should a newbie know who is trying out Linux Mint? I am searching for a real preferences or something that would pop up when writing a search string in the menu like "...

Workspaces / Virtual Desktops no prefs no applet in Mate 16

I just ran Linux Mint 16 MATE 64 Bit from CD to test it and wondered why there are no workspaces. Apparently there are, I can find them with CTRL-ALT-left/right arrow keys What I am not able to find is a menu for controlling the number of workspaces or anything similar. I've been looking in preferen...

Re: LinuxMint installer freezes hard on 2008 Macbook unibody

The same here. I am on a Macbook Pro 5,3 with NVidia 9400 and 9600 graphics cards and having this issue already when working with the Live CD. After some time, the mouse pointer freezes. I cannot even kill the X server with ctrl-alt-backspace or get to any of the consoles for debug output, the syste...

Re: No panel in Cinnamon, but after ctrl-alt-del new login i

After starting Linux Mint in --recovery mode from grub I dropped to the root shell and re-installed the newest NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.44.run on top of the old one and hence cinnamon works again. Why? I have no clue but hey: it works again

Re: No panel in Cinnamon, but after ctrl-alt-del new login i

Thanks CaluVerde, no approach yet worked. I'll re-install now but saved the /var/log/mintUpdate.history to post it here. I don't seem to be able to attach the history file tp the post, so here is the part of yesterdays update (i reversed the order with tac, so the last update is in the first row): 2...

Re: No panel in Cinnamon, but after ctrl-alt-del new login i

Same here. On restart I get the welcome window and the Computer and Home Icons. But no panels, no menu. I went to "Computer/'File System'/usr/bin" and started gnome-terminal which had no window decoration. Apparently no window manager was running. I manually started gnome-wm & in the t...
