Re: Get AMD drivers on Mint 18 [ONLY FOR R7, R9, OR RX CARDS]

When I run the modified script with ./amdgpu-pro-install, there is no output; when I run it with bash amdgpu-pro-install, I get:
amdgpu-pro-install: line 71: cd: amdgpu-pro-install: not a directory
I am using drivers 16.50, LM 18.1 Cinnamon

Re: High level of noise in audio output after fixing no soun

Unfortunately there's little I can do about that, it's my work PC and it belongs to the company. I had it open when I was changing the CPU and indeed there were a couple of leaked capacitors on the motherboard. I have a spare Sound Blaster Live! around here somewhere, so I could plug it in, though I...

Re: High level of noise in audio output after fixing no soun

Thank you for your excellent suggestion. I booted from a live DVD and the noise is still there and it's about the same intensity. It obviously is a hardware problem. It got this way when I upgraded the processor to a more power hungry model, before that the sound wasn't that bad.

High level of noise in audio output after fixing no sound

Hi, I have a machine with Linux Mint 17 MATE and this morning I found out the sound stopped working. Probably a buggy update? I don't know. While trying to fix it as quickly as possible, I reinstalled both pulseaudio and alsa; I followed recommendations from several websites and I don't remember wha...

Re: cinnamon-screensaver does not activate

This is probably by design as it is most useful behavior of a screensaver for LCD screens commonly used on modern PCs. It saves power and prolongs the lifetime of the LCD backlight. (Moving patterns around the screen doesn't save anything on LCD screens.) While this is probably true for modern LED ...

Re: PC configured as switch only connects into LAN, no inter

Update: I have used this tutorial http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/debian-network-interfaces-bridge-eth0-eth1-eth2/ to edit the /etc/network/interfaces file. The machine is now available via SSH on the IP address assigned to the bridge (br0) when I connect it using any ethernet port. From the machine I ...

Re: Samba server no longer appears on windows machine

I have similar experience. You can just create shortcuts to samba shares in "My Computer" using the IP and they'll be accessible whether or not automated discovery is working at the moment.

PC configured as switch only connects into LAN, no internet

Hi. I'd like to know how can I set up my linux machine as a bridge. I've found many tutorials online, but some tell you how to configure linux as a router with NAT (I don't want that, I want transparent bridging), or a dumb bridge which has no internet access of its own. Like these two: http://www.l...

Re: Linux Mint 13 Xfce kernel panic

Hello, Karl, thanks for your advice. The boot sector and grub is on a hard drive, but the operating system itself runs off USB thumb drives for noise reasons. The UUID mentioned belongs to the USB drive which is normally mounted at /. I ran fsck (on all drives for good measure) and I also tried acce...

Linux Mint 13 Xfce kernel panic

Hi, I'm running LM13 Xfce on an old machine. Yesterday I installed some unimportant updates (marked as "3" by the update manager), today I found out that my kernel has panicked. What should I do to comfort and reassure the kernel so that it would boot? Here is a photo of the screen when it stops at ...

Re: Display does not go to standby when PC is inactive

Well I seem to have figured it out. Turns out there are two places in LM XFCE where you can set power options for the display, but only one of them actually works = the Advanced tab of the 'Screensaver' setup tool. If you set standby there, the display will go to sleep.

[Solved] Display does not go to standby when PC is inactive

Hi, I'm running Linux Mint 13 XFCE and I have a problem with the display not being put to sleep/standby/whatever when the PC is not being used. Instead, the screensaver is still showing. I tried changing the settings in the Power management app, but to no avail. Could this by caused by BOINC running...

Re: Installing LMDE across 2 drives

Well I am willing to get my hands dirty a little bit. I mounted my filesystems at /target, the installation went on until the screen where it tells you to write your own fstab (which I did) and install packages you might need (I don't) and click Forward when you're done. Except… the Forward button i...

Re: (Minimum) hardware requirements for Mate and Cinnamon.

I don't expect it to be running Cinnamon and you shouldn't either. I just want to have a fluid experience in MATE, web browsing and such stuff, but most of all I want a GPU that is still supported by the kernel / X server / whatever. The Rage is not supported anymore, so the latest version I can run...

Re: (Minimum) hardware requirements for Mate and Cinnamon.

Sorry for reviving an old thread. I think it's still relevant though. I'd like to know what the situation is now, with Mint 15, and I guess there will be a new version based on Ubuntu 13.10 soon. I have an old computer that I originally wanted to use just as a server, it has a very old ATI Rage grap...

Re: Samba share often hangs when files are accessed

May help to map the drive to the samba share location I'm sorry, what do you mean by that? I might try using the IP instead of the name. Another option might be rsync or some other sync program, such as unison That would defeat the purpose of a samba server for me. The point is not to have the file...

Samba share often hangs when files are accessed

Hi. I'm running LMDE on an old machine and use Samba so it works as a NAS, sort of. When I'm just copying files to and from my Windows machine, everything is OK. But when the files are remotely accessed (playing a movie file, mounting a disc image into a virtual drive...) Samba just stops working af...

No luck with the ampersand, either: lukfi@debmint ~ $ DISPLAY=:0 teamviewer & [1] 3651 lukfi@debmint ~ $ // I didn't do anything here Init... Checking setup... Launching TeamViewer... and so on, it continues just as it does without the ampersand, the only difference is the thread ID No offense, but ...

What happens if you use "sudo shutdown -h now" from the terminal? (If it still reboots, it might be a freak hardware problem)
