Re: 'recently accessed' files list

Thanks MrEen I appreciate your questions. It's good to clear up the 'obvious' I spent many hours looking at all the possible 'obvious' things and ruling them out before coming to this forum as a last resort. The problem is very illusive as it only happens once every few weeks as far as I can tell as...

Re: 'recently accessed' files list

So question for everyone.... When you start nemo by clicking 'files', and select 'Recent' under 'My Computer' in the left hand pane, Does anyone know WHERE nemo gets the list of files it presents from? We've proved time & time again that it is NOT getting it from the .local/share/recently-used.xbel ...

Re: 'recently accessed' files list

Thanks smurphos. I too initially thought it must be something like that. But I don't use any such system. And indeed this file was in my dropbox directory, but it was just one of a number of files in a folder 5 or 6 levels down and it had been there the same amount of time as other files in that fol...

Re: 'recently accessed' files list

Found another one today... So I opened Nemo and clicked Recent Files in the left column, and this one particular file was at the top of the list showing as having been accessed 15 minutes ago. I was nowhere near my PC 15 minutes ago and it wasn't 'doing' anything. But when you click MENU and hover o...

Re: 'recently accessed' files list

Thanks gm10
The very important and key words you used there were "YOU are using", as I haven't touched those files!
So my system is being hacked and someone is using my PDF viewer to look at my files is what we're saying...

This is VERY worrying!

Re: 'recently accessed' files list

OK, a while since the original, and no one may see this? But it happened again today, and I had a look through logs and I found the files that have been accessed without my knowledge... Here are the log entries with path and filenames replaced (by me) inary file /var/log/kern.log.3.gz matches /var/l...

Re: 'recently accessed' files list

Every file on your system has a set of meta data. Part of that is the file's modification date, which usually gets updated when the file gets modified in any way. You can see this date if you browse to the folder that contains the file in your desktop's file browser. This is also the date that gets...

Re: 'recently accessed' files list

No, nothing in /var/log/ So just to be clear.... Even though the 'Recent' files list is clearly showing an access to that file this morning The log file that is supposed to providing that data (recently-used.xbel) has no record of that access????? So where *IS* that record being stored that the file...

'recently accessed' files list

Hi. I quite like the 'Recent' files option, and I use it now & then to find something I used recently but had forgotten where I saved it. However - and this is probably pure paranoia - I've noticed a couple of times, when I bring up the recent files list that there is the odd file that I definitely ...

Re: Networking Setup

So, I eventually installed samba, and there seems to be no change... I can see and access a windows 10 laptop on my network, just as I could before I installed samba But also just as before the windows machine doesn't see any linux box and nor does my android ES-file explorer Even though I know the ...

Networking Setup

I was running mint 17 Had - for me - quite complex networking set-up that took a long time to get working.... Due to various reasons, I got a new machine & upgraded to Mint 18 Sarah. It works fine until I now come to looking at networking and what I'm reading is really worrying me! On the old system...
