Can I change the Grub colour scheme within LM7?

I would like to change the Grub bootloader colour scheme to something very subdued for my office machine. I would like the Grub menu background to be plain black, and the text to be white, and the highlighting to be white and highlighted text to be black (ie highlighted selection to be inversed). Is...

Will persistent settings be retained within local install?

I have a LM7 persistent pendrive which I have been using for the last few weeks whilst my own system has been out of order. I have made lots of changes to the settings and personalised it heavily. I would now like to use the pendrive to install LM7 onto the local drive of my new machine. Will the LM...

How to retain 'persistent' option in LiveUSB kernel at boot?

Hello learned friends I am currently using Mint 7 on a 4GB USB pendrive. I was delighted to discover that my persistent pendrive installation would work if I entered the word 'persistent' in the kernel line, after pressing tab at the boot option menu, at each boot from USB. I would be even more deli...

Re: Firefox - How to make sound output to /dev/dsp1?

I try typing 'setaudio' in the terminal, but I still receive the response:

Code: Select all

bash: setaudio: command not found
How can I make this command work from the terminal?

Re: Firefox - How to make sound output to /dev/dsp1?

Thank you for confirming that 'setaudio' alone will do the job, in the terminal.

And thank you even more for explaining how to make the script work automatically from startup. This will be essential for my specific purposes, and will make my life a great deal easier!

Thank you!! :D

Re: Firefox - How to make sound output to /dev/dsp1?

Thank you so much for your kind and considerate assistance. I must admit that my opening post must have been rather misleading as to my very low level of bash experience! I already had a file called .asoundrc. When I viewed it for the first time I could see that it contained the following: # ALSA li...

Re: Firefox - How to make sound output to /dev/dsp1?

Thank you for your help and for pointing out this article. It looks really positive. The writer of the article posts some initial code. He then some more code which he identifies as a script. Can you help me understand what I should do with the code which the article writer has posted in that link? ...

Firefox - How to make sound output to /dev/dsp1?

I would like to make Firefox output all sound specifically to /dev/dsp1. How can this be done? This is the precise approach which I use to receive all sound in VLC, under the 'Unix OSS audio output' in the 'Audio' tab in the VLC preferences. Doing this with Firefox should also allow me to hear sound...

Re: Gnome displaying large Windows incorrectly with UI glitch!

Thanks for your help on this.

I have found the section of xorg.conf which is called 'Device'. There is no line contained within this section called 'Driver'. Where and how should I add such a line, in order to experiment with whether it would improve my display?

Re: How to check my current version of Linux Mint?

CDs are archaic.

USB pendrives are far more reliable for data retention.

Re: How to change Mint Firefox search behaviour?

Thank you for pointing this out. I have just left the following comment on that blog article's comments page: Clem, I would happily use your customised Mint search, if only you provided the essential functionality for a UK search, as the normal Google.co.uk does. Without this, however, your Mint sea...

Thank you for your suggestions.

This is very odd... as I have now performed the installation command again today, and VLC has installed without a hitch!

Oh well...!

How to change Mint Firefox search behaviour?

I am using Firefox as provided with Linux Mint 6. When I click into the search box in the top right corner of the Firefox screen, and perform a search on any given text, I find that I am always taken to a Mint-ified search results page. This search results page is not good for me, as I am a resident...

Re: Sound has disappeared after system update. Why???

OK, before I start lets get something straight, I've tried this and it worked for me! Beyond that there is no guarantee! Also, even though Mint is based on Ubuntu there is a good reason they hold back some updates, but here we go (remember Mint 5 is based on Hardy and Mint 6 is based on Intrepid). ...
