Re: Help! I want to dual boot Linux Mint 8 w/ Windows 7!

Can someone help me? I'm having a similar issue and have gone through the link above, but can't get grub to install properly. My linux mint installation is on an extended partition. /dev/sda1 1 33691 270622926 5 Extended /dev/sda2 33692 38913 41945715 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda5 * 1 62 497952 83 Linux /de...

Re: Master Volume Only works at 80 and above

I'm so sorry I didn't respond a year ago. I didn't remember where I posted this at and just dealt with it until I built my current pc.

Optional Installs

First off I'd like to say it's great to be dual booting with Mint again. I was surprised at the progress that has been made since Felicia/Gloria. I'm installing it right now and the installer is describing the software being installed, the optiions that we have and it's informing me about the commun...

Re: Support for Silverlight applications

It's not so much the drm that bugs me. It's the fact that Microsoft and Novell are working on this together and they release Moonlight in a state that is always inferior to the current Silverlight version. Microsoft has the source to Silverlight! Novell is bringing them linux expertise! It may not b...

Re: Efficiency of Virtual Machines

Thank you both for your good answers and quick replies. I guess we can't have it all. I hope the rumor about linux client for steam becomes true someday. If so I'm all over a jump back to linux.

Efficiency of Virtual Machines

I've been the using the Windows 7 RC1 for a few months and loved it, but missed my Mint and Fedora. I'm fine with dual booting between those two, but now I want to know if I can get games to run decently from inside of the virtual machine? It's mainly for steam games and the hulu desktop application...

Re: Gloria wallpaper

I like the background, but the log-in box does seem a bit off. It needs to something. Maybe it can be a rearview mirror being adjust by someone or the stamper that broke the glass with its' mint? Or a solid black color like the one someone mocked up in one of the first pages. I liked that.

Re: Master Volume Only works at 80 and above

I can give you more information the next time I'm home. The info I have know is what i remember. It's running the main Edition of Linux Mint 6: Felicia. It happens in any desktop environment I use with the default Gnome one being the one I use most of the time. My hardware: Pentium III@ 1 Ghz 256 Mb...

Master Volume Only works at 80 and above

In Linux Mint Elyssa and Felicia I can only hear sound when theMaster Volume is set between 80-100%. Anything lower and it's gone. The sound also has huge jumps in volume when moving just 1% so I'm guessing that it somehow has a 1-20 scale for sound adjustment that works between 80-100? My speakers ...

Re: Hard Drive Question

Thank you. Yea, I did encounter a problem with my hdd, but it was due partly to something else. I used the partitioner that comes with TinyMe 2008 to resize my Windows partition. The good news is that it did it successfully, the bad news is that only TinyMe can see the hard drive as being properly p...

Re: Considerations before you install

Is there an option that can be activated during the install that will allow for the operating system to fully run from memory? My current machine has no hope in the world of ever doing that, but I hope to upgrade to a much more capable box later in the year. it'll have more than enough ram to do so....

Re: E17

I have the same problem with wireless. I have a networking module loaded that looks like a black circle. When I click it I get a pop-up that's epmty. I guess it would have ssid's in it, but it's always bank. Even after I click advanced, make sure wifi (wlan, can't remember which, there' is only one ...

Re: Considerations before you install

Wouldn't a new "/" partition need to be created for each distro, or is it somehow possible to have multiple distro's installed to one "/" partition?

I'm guessing no since os specific stuff is saved there and there would/could be conflicts right?

Re: Hard Drive Question

Ok, thank you. The hdd problem was the important one, aircrack was moreso just a thing I planned to use while my internet was down for a few days, so i guess its' use wasn't going to be legitimate if I figured it out.

Re: Considerations before you install

Thanks Fred, you've taught me a lot. Is it possible to make these partitions after a system has already been installed? I think separating the files and folders after install may make the system unuseable, I'm n9ot sure, but if it's possible to make up for my mistakes then I would love to.

Hard Drive Question

I've been using computers for years and have done just about everything with them. I feel kind of silly/ridiculous for asking this, but can I take a hdd with Linux Mint Elyssa installed and place it into a another oc and have the install still work? If not, what do I have to do to make transferring ...

ATI Radeon 9200 Driver not installing and a few other things

Technically this is multiple probems, but the rules said that a post should be in one forum. I could split it, but the most pressing issue is the video card problem. That and the pc is moving so slow that it would take me too long to try to stay updated on multiple topics. I apologize in advance for...

Re: GStreamer Failed@

You might try reloading the alsa modules. Run these one at a time from a terminal: cd /usr/src sudo module-assistant update sudo module-assistant prepare sudo module-assistant auto-install alsa You will have to reboot to check. Did you update the kernel? What's the output of uname -r from a termina...
