Re: Wifi issues

Having a similar problem with Mint 17 64bit and Ubuntu 12.4.5 it could be the supplied USB wireless driver timing out. There may also be a conflict with your previous installed driver (look under /etc/Wireless to see if it is listed there)\ I had to remove the driver for my system as the supplied ke...

Re: hp scanjet 2200c not really working with xsane

My own reason is functionality compared to Simple Scan plus a degree of loyalty to a package that has always seemed to work, regardless of distribution. There's more control and options plus integration with other packages which Simple Scan does not have. I've been using Xsane since 2005 in Ubuntu a...

Re: hp scanjet 2200c not really working with xsane

I'm using an HP 3400C and most of the problems I ran into had to do with the HP software and ICC color profile . Open Xsane and find the Preferences/enable color management, see if it is checked, un-check it and see what that does, if unchecked check it but be warned it might not help at all, if the...

Re: Xsane OCR feature won't work

You need to edit xsane for the appropriate OCR software.
Either cunieform, tesseract or install gocr
You might also want to install YAGF as it provides a GUI and makes things a little simpler.

Re: Linux Mint 17, No printer output

If you go into the repositories for Linux Mint 17 do a search for printing. Find the foomatic printing and open-printing packages and install them. Turn off your system so you can do a cold boot. Before you boot power up your printer and after power up the system. Go into the printer utility (save y...

Re: What are you most dissatisfied with in Linux Mint?

I would have to say the installer. I've been a member of the forum for just over six months now and I spend most of my time in the "Installation & Boot" section. It seems far too many people crash and burn trying to install Linux Mint, especially where Windows 8/8.1 and UEFI boot are concerned. I a...

Re: What are you most dissatisfied with in Linux Mint?

Realizing there are a great many cross platform users there are some who are not. Without causing an argument it would be nice if there were less native Windows specific packages installed as default. If the majority of Linux Mint users are MS/Linux dual booters, so be it, but it would be nice to ha...

Re: Netgear N900 WNDA4100 Drivers

There's an update to the driver for 64 bit systems using the N900. Before I go any further with this note this worked in Linux Mint 16 64 bit and I keep a copy of the original unzipped files in a special folder to copy and paste to the Desktop after kernel updates as the Kernel update kills the driv...

Re: HP come up trumps for Linux Printing

On Linux Mint 16 64bit and Linux Mint 14 32bit. HP3400 works in both Simple Scan and an install of Xsane. Kept Xsane for familiarity (Since early Hoary Hedgehog Ubuntu) and it works well with the HP3400 scanner. Printer HP LaserJet Pro 400 (M401n) wired (no wireless as I don't want the neighbors rec...

Re: What are you most dissatisfied with in Linux Mint?

Probably the loss some of the minor things. The "recent files" list in the main menu, inability to move the terminal to the panel. I've been using Linux distributions long enough to know there's always going to be some hardware issues and since the software is volunteered there shouldn't be any comp...

Re: os-releas and rkhunter - no mail on warning:resolved

What I found: (the only change was to change comment from null or no to yes RKhunter file was not set properly in the /etc/defaults/rkhunter file during the install. (from the repository) What I checked: cron.d; cron.daily, ancron file in cron. daily and 0nacron file plus rkhunter.conf. I also noted...

os-releas and rkhunter - no mail on warning:resolved

Installed Linux Mint 16 64bit and installed the 1.4.03 version of Rkhunter with mailx and postfix. Modified rkhunter.conf for the proper release file name and when manually triggering rkhunter get mail at both the user name and root. Unfortunately, though rkhunter is listed in the cron job files for...

Re: Netgear N900 WNDA4100 Drivers

This is the text instructions gleaned from a couple of Ubuntu posts. I've been running the Netgear N900 for a good while now on Fedora18, Ubuntu 12.4.03 and Linux Mint 14 with no issues except for the re-install after updated kernels. Some of this you may have already performed but it's there for th...

Re: 3 Operating System - grub2 problem

Don't know how much this will help but I had a similar issue with four OSs on the same system. Running Fedora18(KDE), Linux Mint14, Debian 6.0X(later Fedora 18 Gnome) and Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS When ever I would update the kernel on one of the systems the Fedora18 Gnome and the Ubuntu did not show up in...
