In case anyone else reads this and this solution doesn't work for them I found this video on YouTube about putting the pictures in usr/share/pixmaps and it worked for me.

Re: LightDM not showing background picture

Strangely, I decided to have a look on YouTube to see if anyone else had this issue and found this video. I moved the picture to this location (didn't change permissions) and now the background picture appears on the login screen. I have no idea why the picture has to be in this location though. /us...

LightDM not showing background picture [SOLVED]

Hi, I did search the forum and found this post (https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=248827&p=1337791&hilit=lightdm#p1337791) which is the same issue as mine but the fix didn't work for me and that thread is marked as solved so I thought I'd start my own thread. Linux Mint 1...

Re: I just can't find a good Microsoft office alternative

What's the matter with WPS? It's designed to be like a clone so what don't you like about it?

Re: Best way to partition laptop

Thanks everyone for your help, especially JoeFootball for your links. The computer had a rEFInd Boot Manager which made it easy to install Linux and Windows again. Used GParted and setup /, SWAP and /Home for Linux and another partition for Windows. Just transferring the data back to the laptop now ...

Re: Best way to partition laptop

Forgot to add I think the computer is locked down by UEFI but I'm not 100% sure, will that cause issues when installing Windows after Linux Mint? Ah, that is notable. I don't know what you may encounter if you're attempting to install Windows 10 after Linux Mint in a UEFI environment. I've installe...

Re: Best way to partition laptop

I use typically use GParted Live , where I boot to it via CD or USB, and then have complete access to the hard drive for creating & editing partitions. Joe Yeah I normally use GParted too, so it shouldn't cause issues now if I create /home, /root and SWAP partitions and then create another part...

Best way to partition laptop

Hi, My mum's computer was running Windows 10 and running stupidly slow so I said I'd put Linux Mint on it whilst dual booting with Windows 10, I tried partitioning the laptop to make room for Linux Mint Cinnamon 64bit but somehow managed to corrupt the MBR and now Windows won't boot. Not a problem a...

Thanks, I deleted the extra " and refreshed in the Update Manager and it didn't show up any errors so hopefully this is fixed now.

Re: Broken Package - Unable to repair

The kernal installation is now complaining about /etc/default/grub so paste back cat -n /etc/default/grub I remember changing a couple of these settings a little while ago after I installed my new graphics card as the resolution of the GRUB menu was very low, could that have caused this issue? Than...

That looks messy for sure. Both times it complained about the post install process going awry. Hi, EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm running Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64bit. Re: Mail notification for Thunderbird

I'm running Cinnamon 18.1 64bit and FireTray 0.6.1 and it seems to work nicely, although I had to play around with the preferences to get it to work how I want it to.

I've now found an add-on that is better than Mailtag and it's called Firetray, works perfectly so far.
