Re: Driver Manager - Intel Microcode question - Skylake

Had a total freeze with Marco and compton. I went with Marco/no compositing and uninstalled compiz and this PC has been running fine all day.

I'll see how it goes for another few days then may revert to Mint 17.3 which was running well on this machine.

Or may try Lubuntu.

Re: Driver Manager - Intel Microcode question - Skylake

Thanks for your help. I will stick with the marco and compton first and see how that goes, then might just switch to marco without compositing then a newer kernel if needed. Curiously, I didn't have this issue in 17.3 although did have a similar issue at times after some updates. Hard to pin down su...

Re: Driver Manager - Intel Microcode question - Skylake

Thank you. Is the latest kernel supported for just as long as the originally installed kernel is?

I've enabled marco with compton so that automatically disables software compositing. Do I still need to remove compbiz as per that link in Mate? Even though its not the compositor I'm using?

Driver Manager - Intel Microcode question - Skylake

Hi folks, I've just installed Mint 18.1 Mate on my Skylake Core i5-6500 system after having had Mint 17.3 on this system for the last year or more. I'm using onboard graphics with 8GB of RAM installed. I just had a screen freeze after adding another mint menu to the bottom panel and a power off butt...

Re: Cannot create bootable USB with Unetbootin for Isadora

I've just tried image writer in Mint 17 Mate and it seems to have easily installed a clonzezilla iso to a USB stick for me. I've tested it here on my laptop and all seems well. Great! I've always gone to Windows and used make bat once you unzip all of the contents of the clonezilla zip onto your USB...

Re: Google Chrome went super-size after latest update

This issue seems to be 'resolved' for me when using my dining room laptop with my DTV 32 inch screen and Linux Mint 17, 32 bit Mate and my Nvidia GPU - which is the only way I can use the DTV screen with my laptop - I can't use the intel settings in my Nvidia toolbox as the DTV doesn't display prope...

Re: Google Chrome went super-size after latest update

Thanks. :) I'm using a Nvidia card in my laptop with Mint so its quite possible it will still be a problem for me.

Re: Google Chrome went super-size after latest update

Has this issue been resolved? It seems to impact Nvidia GPUs, which is what my dining room pc uses with the large screen tv connected to it. My other PCs are all fine.

I'm not really inclined to update the dining room Nvidia pc (latop) unless its clear this problem is gone on Nvidia systems.

Re: Google Chrome went super-size after latest update

I've downgraded back to the May 25 version mentioned in this thread and it works perfectly now. On the latest version, it also works perfectly if I use the X-org driver instead of the NVIDIA one but then I can't use my DTV connected to my laptop, like I always have. So, sticking to the older version...

Re: Google Chrome went super-size after latest update

The next release Version 43.0.2357.130, has the same problems for my system. Still exhibiting super sized fonts...

I can add this

google-chrome --force-device-scale-factor=1

and all works fine.

Not sure why the latest update hasn't addressed the issue...

Re: Google Chrome went super-size after latest update

Thanks for that, what you say makes sense to me.

Does purging and installing an older version make it straight forward to update when the next update comes out? Hopefully with a fix.

Re: Google Chrome went super-size after latest update

Isn't it best to enter this into terminal

sudo apt-get purge google-chrome-stable

and then this?

sudo apt-get autoremove

Re: What's up with Dropbox icon on Rebecca ---really cheesy!

I've also experienced this in Mint 17 Mate 32 bit. The Drop Box icon is smaller and the tick is very small. And now I can't click on the panel icon to bring up drop box, I have to right click twice and select open folder, to get the drop box folder to come up. I lost the icon initially but went to t...

Re: Gparted Error when viewed in Mint 17 Live USB session

I just deleted my D: Windows data partition via Gparted and was then able to install Mint 17 as a dual boot with W7 on this rarely used 2011 laptop with no UEFI BIOS. As you said, it had too many partitions before so it wouldn't install as dual boot. I was a bit scared to re-size my Windows partitio...

Re: Gparted Error when viewed in Mint 17 Live USB session

Thankyou very much for your considered post, its appreciated. I never take replies for granted. :) Yes, I was thinking about deleting that Data partition, it has nothing on it of note and also my laptop is not a production machine and has clonezilla and Acronis backup images, if something goes wrong...

Re: Gparted Error when viewed in Mint 17 Live USB session

Okay, i've realised what the first image is describing...Gparted is reading the plugged in USB stick as the second drive! So, its not really an error, I'd guess. Still, I don't understand why I can't dual boot on this laptop. Any thoughts? Is it the Windows 7 recovery partition causing an issue? May...

Gparted Error when viewed in Mint 17 Live USB session

Hi folks, I've got a 2011 laptop that has run Linux before but currently has an Acronis restored image of Windows 7 on it. I want to put Mint 17 on it and have tested via a live USB version of Mint 17 and it works well. However, when I try to install Mint 17 as a dual boot with Windows 7, there is n...

Re: Still using Linux Mint 14, 15, or 16? Upgrade to 17 asap

I have a very straightforward system for upgrading my Linux Mint system. I use dropbox for my files and also have two external drives for file backups - plus I ftp my website files to my phone and tablet often. As well as that, I have four hard drives in my system, with only one sata plugged in at a...

Re: Image Entire Hard Disk - How?

I image entire disks with Clonezilla often, both Windows 7 and Linux. I never have more than one OS on a single drive, though. Hard drives are so cheap these days its safer IMO, to just install one OS per drive. Very easy to use Clonezilla this way, via USB stick or CD.
