I am wanting to set it up for music recording (I know about AVLinux ect) and would like to keep LM17 as it has worked well so far and with only 2 gigs of ram I'm not too sure how well it ...

I might move up to 19 later. Hope there's an upgrade method as simple as the above done to 18.

Re: Linux Mint 17.x has reached end of life; upgrade now!

Did that this past week. Used the instructions here and upgraded to 18, then booted to it and did to 18.3 in the Update GUI program. https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2316 I was worried since mine is encrypted system 17.3 It took 70 minutes to do, had a number of Y/N options to answer, s...

Re: China and need to buy new laptop. How to guess which one is Linux friendly?

Man, I've been looking for a perfect laptop for Linux for about two months now. I've gone through a few recommendation here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/abxzbc/best_laptops_for_linux/ But most of them aren't available on Amazon UK anymore. Can anyone suggest a good Linux performer arou...

Re: Uploading a screenshot, image, or images to this forum

Another way if from a browser is to use CTRL with - or + in combo, to make the webpage smaller or larger first, then run screenshot with option of crop. For instance in mate-screenshot or gnome-screenshot, I have my screenshot set to use it with the -i or interactive, which allows me at the time of ...

Re: Screen resultion changes when switching users

What does that "set as Primary" do? Maybe you can create an .xprofile file and put in each user's main folder with the resolution wanted for that user. Basically it's an xrandr command and then that user profile defaults to it instead of the system wide resolution. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/R...

Re: Screen resultion changes when switching users

Did you open Device Manager and put in the NVIDIA driver?

Here's what I see for my Display settings, using MATE on 17.3, do you not have similar option for "apply system wide"?

Re: Mounted Volume becomes inaccessible after power manager turns off screen

That may be it, an ownership problem. I'm not good with CHMOD, but if you go to the Administrative section and look for Users and Groups, you should be able to assign that drive to your User profile, and have it restriced to your profile, or open to any other profile.

Re: Mounted Volume becomes inaccessible after power manager turns off screen

Was one installed under UEFI and the other under Legacy mode? I don't have an UEFI motherboard, but I've heard that those drives with OS installed under Legacy mode may not see the drive and it's OS under the UEFI mode. That probably doesn't apply here, since you obviously have both drives at first....

Re: Mounted Volume becomes inaccessible after power manager turns off screen

That all looks OK in fstab and report of blkid. So, it's a laptop, which may I assume the SSD is plugged to a USB port? May be a regression error that turns off USB port.

Make a second one, so you have two of them. If the second one always comes up, then dump the old one.

Re: convert xrandr commands to xorg.conf settings

You put not in .profile, but in .xprofile, which you create with text editor. Put those xrandr commands in it, and into the user profile folder.

Re: Mounted Volume becomes inaccessible after power manager turns off screen

Mint 19 is a clean install to sda1 which overwrote the previous Mint 17.3 installation.
That makes no sense to me. Clean vs Over Wrote.

Check the fstab file.
