Re: Linux Mint ruined Linux Mint with DuckDuckG0!

I think giving up because of this is like quitting a game of magic because you drew a shock instead of a lightning bolt in your opening hand.

Re: Can we please have a Linux Mint bare bones release?

Just want to throw in my 2c. Part of the appeal of LM is that is comes with everything you need to just install and go. It works out of the box, and that is something I think LM is built with intentionally. To me, LM is a linux OS that is for the newbie, or for someone just switching over from windo...

Re: Two (3 really) quick questions about LM17

Thanks for such a quick reply! I understand now. I think I should be ok finding where to install grub. I've messed something up on my desktop with grub and the booting is functional.. but messy. if everything is on the usb, should be easy to wipe and restart if things go wrong.

Two (3 really) quick questions about LM17

Hello. I'm not sure if anyone will have noticed, but the first question is: Does LM17 include some wallpapers from previous versions? Question 2! I want to install LM17 on a small external thing, would it be faster to install to a USB2.0 stick, or an SD card? Are they the same speeds, and would this...

Re: Thanks clem for makin a swell os!!!

Thanks a lot for making an os that cannot compromise my insanity anymore. I have harbored these feelings far too long in the worlds most common gateway, that being another OS, which has made my life a perfectly horriflying experience for years. People who had just loved to torment me about my OS pre...

Re: I installed Linux Mint 16 but its still booting windows

This may not be of help but its something. My HP laptop seems to have a seperate partion that contains a booting file, perhaps grub was installed to a partion on your laptop that is not looked at first and thus ignored? You could try hitting a key at startup to tell the laptop where you want to boot...

Help installing LM, please!

I've been having a lot of trouble with this. Let me start off by saying my PC is garbage, I cannot boot to USB or CD. (old gigabyte mobo known issue with no fix). This makes things frustrating. Mint 16 no longer comes with a install from windows option, which was perfect for me before... I do not kn...

Banshee question

Hi, i'm pretty tech savy, so when i have questions, normally i have a bad feeling that there is no solution. But, might as well ask. This is a simple thing really. In banshee, I want it to sort my music by the folder structure I have on my drive, not by artist, or album, or song, w/e. Many of my son...

Re: Just want to say thanks...

Might as well say thanks here too, I also tried linux way back when, but it was just complicated and I didnt know how to use anything, as above said... Mint is pretty much exactly what I was hoping it to be; a very accessible version of Linux that; a) gives me an operational desktop OS off the bat b...

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

I also notice a delay when opening the menu and also a delay in selection when hovering over items in menu. Cinnamon is very nice looking, but I've found i've been logging in under MATE for the sole reason there is no delay : ( running on lm 15 x64. There was also a delay in 14. core 2 duo 1.8GHz (u...

Re: LM 16 and Cinnamon 2.0

I see, thank you for the thought out and informative post. It would make sense then to get away from gnome, as the gnome shell updates are for features of gnome that make cinnamon have to make more adjustments to be compatible. Learning new things every day.

LM 16 and Cinnamon 2.0

Better place than any to ask questions for this. : D I just read that cinnamon 2.0 will lose its "gnome backend". Im a linux noob and have no idea what this means. what is a backend? What does it do? How will this effect the end user, will it speed up cinnamon or make it more resourceful? No doubt i...

Re: Linux Mint 15 "Olivia" released!

Hi all, This may be a silly question (or one that's answered in a faq somewhere...), but what are the differences (or advantages) between LM15 and a current install of LM13, with all current updates installed? Cheers, Mike. I would think only the linux kernel itself and new imrovements such as the ...

Re: Install MATE alongside Cinnamon in Mint 15

I just did this today, open the software manager and search MATE. Its the first two results, mate-desktop and mint-meta-mate. Now logout and you can switch desktop envirnments (to MATE or Cinnamon) and log in.

Re: Graphics drivers troubles

Im also curious about this. I've read that the proprietary drivers dont work well with cinnamon. I think my desktop gets pretty hot using the open source ones and I'd like to try out the proprietary ones, but fear i'll screw up my install.

The mouse is indeed fast for me too, but I get used to it and rather like it after I do, less wrist movements.

difference between the lm firefox and regualr one?

lm comes with their own version of firefox pre-installed. And its based off ff 20, but 21 is out and I was going to update, but whats the difference between them?

Also, adding google as a search engine seems to be bugged, i get 404 errors when i try using it.
