the X needs to be a number to change the brightness to. i believe its 1-10.

i'm a linux noob, but if "xfce4-session --display :0" is working for you whats stopping you from putting that command as a startup command?

settings > search engines theirs 2 Google search engines there. delete the one with http://www.google.com/cse?cx=002683415331144861350%3Atsq8didf9x0&q=%s&ie={inputEncoding}&sa=Search Was really aggravated by this and searched through the settings. no longer reffers to LM search when i type in google...

Everything works upon restart. it starts up as minimum value (i think?) and i can use hardware keys to change it.

You are AWESOME! After installing the experimental drivers using GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="aacpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" and Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1 I can now change the brightness from my hardware keys. when starting linux mint the gui crashes and says X has crashed. i installed the experimental drivers and i'm starting to try some of the grub lines now.
Also my xorg file now has text in it.

xorg keep crashing on me. so i just uninstalled the drivers. Thanks for the help though!
