Re: Replacement for broken MacBook Air 2022
I'm going to go 'outside the bounds' for this. Some mac fans cannot abide any other system. There is a way to run a 'modern' mac system on macs that are 'out of support'. These older macs can be had for a reasonable price, used, on ebay. An older macbook air, with 8GB of ram (maybe a 2012 or so), c...

Re: First install!
My goodness I cannot even begin to count how many times I have installed mint let alone everything under the sun in VMs . . . . . thousands ? ? ? ? What are you doing with your life? Tell us, it would be interesting.

Re: Replacement for broken MacBook Air 2022
I agree ThinkPads are tanks and the way to go if you can get her to accept the transition. This is anecdotal but I have had a bit of an easier time getting Windows user to switch to Mint than Mac users . . . . unfortunately for me the few Mac users I have suggested Mint to or have shown Mint to have...

Re: Reinstall Linux Mint on old Mac Mini.
you will only save a couple of MB of ram by using Xfce, and none if you turn off Cinnamon's bells and whistles , +1 I got into this pretty deep a few years ago installing new OS on some old systems with limited resources including a Mac Mini that my wife no longer wanted (also a 2009 MacBook and an...

Re: HMDI TV monitor no longer found - LMDE 6
Here you go: majpooper@tacoma:~$ ls /sys/class/drm/ card0 card0-DP-1 card0-DP-2 card0-DVI-I-1 renderD128 version I looked at the back - and the HDMI cable is going into and adapter which I can't remove which seems strange. So now I wonder if the HDMI is being converted to something else or if it's a...

Re: Welcome Ladies - post here :)
I'm 68 now but back 30 odd years ago, when I coded my first webpages, I was accused of posing because "girls don't code". Of course I know what posing means generally (like posing for a picture) but I don't understand what it means in the context that you are using it. Were they say...

HMDI TV monitor no longer found - LMDE 6
I have dual monitors and a Panasonic flat screen configured on my PC running LMDE 6. For a while now I have not been able to access the TV screen. I do not use often so have been putting off delving into the problem so I cannot say exactly when this stopped working but several months. I just assumed...

Re: Is my system safe?
I prefaced the post with the thought I don't think there needs to be concerned! The first two tools I have used many times in servers The third one I'm not so sure about and have not used it. In any even the Linux Desktop is very secure. But many coming from Windows are very concerned and these too...

I do not believe you have much to worry about but just to be sure this page may be of help. https://linuxsecurity.com/features/the-three-best-tools-you-need-to-scan-your-linux-system-for-malware Paint me skeptical - First; it looks like all these tools require giving them root access - that is a hu...

Re: My experience using Linux Mint as newbie
Well the "I wish Mint had KDE Plasma" DE has come up before so a while back I installed LMDE 6 in a VM and purged Cinnamon and installed Plasma so I wouldn't have competing DEs. I played with it a bit - opening and closing apps etc. and everything "seemed" OK but I hardly did a l...

Re: Old PC, Win10, and Virtual Box - SOLVED
At this point I had a drive formatted in a way that Windows would understand (as it turns out Windows does format the drive if you make it far enough into the installation). So put the disc in turn the computer on and let it run until something bombed out, over, and over and over and...finally it m...

Re: Old PC, Win10, and Virtual Box - SOLVED
No matter which version of LM ISO that I burned (except for once) it would either freeze up or I experienced the automatic loading in ten seconds loop (on both computers??). This is interesting - do you mean the install would freeze or would go into a loop? Or are you referring to the burn process ...

Re: Old PC, Win10, and Virtual Box
A couple for comments from the peanut gallery: First, of all from what I understand and from my experience with some old HP all in one PCs I am pretty sure you have virtualization capability. I know it can be tricky to find it in the BIOS but it is probably somewhere - the problem often I have found...

Re: Moving Items in Panel Using Cinnamon
check out this video on YouTube: it shows how to move things to the center but it works the same way for the left and right as well. The panel can seem stubborn but once you get the knack of moving stuff around it really is easy - I find I sometimes have to move an item past where I actually want it...

Re: Cinnamon: how to change the icon size for ALL icons
Hi is there a way to configure the destkop icons with the same size in px? I mean not one-by-one through Resize Icon, but some dconf or compiz entry second question is, if someone knows how to extend the line length of the title of a desktop icon. thx. Re: Moving Items in Panel Using Cinnamon
Right click the panel > click Panel edit mode You should be able to move things around on the panel Here is a tip: sometimes you have to move something a little further than where you want it in the center (or left or right) to get it to stick. But once you get in the section of the panel where you ...

Re: How long have you been using Linux ?
I took a linux course at the local community college in 2011 - the distro the course used was SuSe. Went to Ubuntu for a short while then on to Mint in 2013. I started out with both a Windows laptop and a linux PC then moved to dual boot on the PC. A friend who worked at Red Hat turned me on to VM s...
