Re: linuxmint.com web site should recommend MATE

Linuxmint.com shouldn't recommend any desktop as "their favorite"! Linuxmint.com provides an operating system which comes with different desktop environments. Which one the users likes the most depends entirely upon the users them self. Not on the website, the developers, or any other person involv...

Re: Ditch all except LMDE

As to "Ditch All" attitude is kind of arrogant and short-sighted thinking as their way is the only right and just way. Which is totally against the whole Open Source variety for all. And the Linux Open Bazaar affair of allowing the user to stroll among the distro's and decide what feels & fits righ...

Re: Ditch all except LMDE

@drake: Obviously, Clem doesn't agree with you on that...otherwise, he would not be using it as the base for mint.... I'm not privy to Mr. Clem's thoughts on the matter but if it's like you say then how comes we have LMDE which is based directly upon Debian? also i am currently running 13.04 and i ...

Re: Greetings from Earth

Hi overthetop, thanks for the welcome. Actually LSF is pretty simple, okay a bit more complex than taking a distro like Debian or Redhat and giving them a face lift, but still not like programming from scratch would be. What's hard about it is building so many packages for it then extending the base...

Re: Ditch all except LMDE

While Mint was and is very popular...ubuntu is not on the wane by any stretch of the imagination...and ubuntu (like it or not...i like it) is the ONLY linux distro that has the "might" to attract more and more non-linux users to the fold, as it were...also, Clem is very fond of using ubuntu as mint...

Re: vokoscreen needs libc6 upgrade, how do I install vokoscr

Hi zerozero, yes a lot depend on libc6, although they might not specifically all cease to function if a new version of libc6 was installed but yes from what I have read it would definitely break some programmes and so the risk is not worth it with this version of LMDE. Vokoscreen is for 32bit and 64...

Re: Ditch all except LMDE

That's been suggested tons of times, also the other way around (ditch LMDE). The developers don't share your view on this and continue to value Ubuntu as a strong and suitable package base for Linux Mint. Last year the number of distributions was cut (Fluxbox and LXDE from Linux Mint and Xfce from ...

Re: vokoscreen needs libc6 upgrade, how do I install vokoscr

Moved your topic here and updated the subject to reflect your underlaying question to the suggestion. Hopefully others here can help you install vokoscreen. Installing it is easy if dependencies can be satisfied, the problem is that other things rely specifically on the LMDE version of libc6 instal...

Re: Upgrade Libc6

Well I wanted to use this but if I force an upgrade of libc6 I am pretty sure it will break things in my system:

Ditch all except LMDE

Having all these different versions of Linux Mint is just creating more work and confusion. I think it would be better to not try to be all things to all people and stick with what has the most potential, that's not going to be Linux Mint being Ubuntu based. LMDE with a choice of desktop at install ...

Re: linuxmint.com web site should recommend MATE

I agree I prefer MATE over Cinammon, somehow MATE seems a bit faster and does not have the issue with the screensaver kicking in despite being turned off while watching videos on a website that Cinnamon has, yes I know that's fixable but yes MATE is cool.

vokoscreen needs libc6 upgrade, how do I install vokoscreen?

The current version of Libc6 used by LMDE is old, some software needs the newer versions, like I am getting unsatisfied dependencies libc6 = 2.14 needed, I think the latest stable is even 2.15, LMDE (MATE) has 2.13.

Greetings from Earth

Hi, I am from the UK, dabbled with FreeBSD, Redhat, Slackware and SuSE a few years ago and have used Ubuntu daily for the past two years before ditching it in favour of LMDE Mate two weeks ago, I don't use windows at all thank god. I have an interest in OpenSim and Unity3D for creating games and vir...

Re: NVIDIA and LMDE 64bit MATE problems...

you're welcome :) remember that when you get a new kernel update you have to run sgfxi again because using this method you are not building the drivers automagically against the new kernels. Yes I read that but thanks for reminding me, also apparently sgfxi stores things in /usrsrc/sgfxi-downloads ...

NVIDIA and LMDE 64bit MATE problems...

I have an Geforce 9600 GSO NVIDIA Video Card installed on my computer, I previously used Ubuntu and had fewer graphic problems but Ubuntu was less snappier than LMDE and I prefer the look and functions of LMDE. That said, I have spent a week following various forum posts about how to install NVIDIA ...
