Re: Since I updated it always looks for a printer driver

Sorry for late reply didn't get a notification of a reply. usb://Canon/iP5000?serial=127627 Canon PIXMA iP5000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.11 No extra printers installed for years now. Keep getting an Epson driver trying to be installed but I don't own an Epson printer. The only 2 printers ever connected...

Since I updated it always looks for a printer driver

Now I have ONE printer installed and working, but on startup it always now does a "searching for drivers" followed by a root request and a list of drivers for Epson printers. I have a Canon printer. hairybiker@octo:~$ dmesg|grep printer [ 7.886256] usblp 3-3:1.0: usblp1: USB Bidirectional ...

{SOLVED} Nemo 3.0.6 how to restore breadcrumbs?

I've gotten used to using the breadcrumbs for navigation, but in Mint 18 it only seems to offer the text entry for location. Is there anyway to restore the breadcrumbs? I've tried different themes so it isn't that. EDIT: just created a new user and they have breadcrumbs, but I can't see where the se...

{SOLVED}Re: Mint 18 dual monitor right click problem

OK fixed it. On the Desktop settings, choose Show desktop icons on all monitors.
Now this doesn't actually do what it says :?:
However it DOES allow the full right click menu on both monitors now.

{SOLVED} Mint 18 dual monitor right click problem

I can only get a full right click menu on the default monitor. On the 2nd monitor I only see "add desklet, change background & settings", instead of the whole normal menu.
So I can no longer create a folder/item on the 2nd monitor or cut & paste to it.
How can I get my menu back?

17.3 Cinnamon: Can't use Movies folder name as mount point

I have several nfs shares from my "server" running Mint 17.3 Mate to my other machines. Until 17.3 Cinnamon I could happily see the contents of all the shares on this pc. Shares are all using the same share values. e.g. /exports/Movies 192.168.1.1/24(rw,no_subtree_check) /exports/home 192....

Re: Can't get dmesg to run

I am the ONLY user on this system, with full admin rights. Found out the reason again, something had added kernel.dmesg_restrict = 1 to the end of sysinit.conf. Now I know I didn't and the post I made above showed it to be 0, but resetting it has made dmesg work again. This has only happened since I...

[solved](ish)Can't get dmesg to run

When I try to run dmesg I get:
dmesg: klogctl failed: Operation not permitted

This is only happened since upgrading to 17.2 Cinnamon. (Clean install as I had issues getting wine to run on an upgrade)

Running 17.2 Cinnamon 64 bit. Fully updated on Amd 8 core proc.

Re: How to get a wine program added as as open with

Cheers that works.

Bit of a faff compared to Mate though.
The QuickPar config sets itself up to associate with par/2 & md5 files, but it doesn't seem to be getting passed to nemo.

How to get a wine program added as as open with

OK have searched around and can't find a solution.
I have QuickPar installed under wine. On Mate it just worked and added itself to the open with menu, but on Cinnamon it doesn't.

I have tried adding a custom launcher, but it launches QP but not with the file selected.

usb drives mounted RO

Mint 17.1 64bit

Sometimes when I boot, my usb drives are mounted as ro as a normal user.
su can r/w to them and they are mounted rw according to mount.

A reboot usually fixes this but is a PITA when you just want to copy something to a usb quickly.

I found the problem, I searched for the issue and it has been around for several years.
Something about workarounds & full screen.

Now apps stay in their own monitor.

17.1 Compiz + NVidia + dual screen

When I full screen an app it is now taking over both screens, I only want it to full screen on the current monitor.
Is it a "feature" of compiz that this is happening?
Or how can I fix it back to the way it used to be?

Re: Why doesn't Linux slow down over time?

Most of the people I know who don't use/wolnt switch to Linux are "tied" to the software they have been using for years, be it M$ works (no it doesn't) or a particular bit that is no longer supported and will only work on XP. I had one who wanted to use infranview, after some faffing about...

Re: Why doesn't Linux slow down over time?

M$ relies on the registry, and a non fragmented file system. Unfortunately both tend to get upset. The registry gets filled with crud and so slows down the pc as it has to load it all, the HDD gets fragmented so takes longer to load things. Linux doesn't have a central registry rather loads of small...
