Re: Live USB Bootable - 4GB root (/) limit - update out of s

Hello Brainout, I am enjoying Linux now that my Live USB has 24 GB to add more apps and store more data from my Windows 7. The Patriot Razzo thumb drive sticks out about 2 and a half inches, and so I made another Live USB with my Sandisk Cruzer Fit which sticks out only a quarter inch and, therefore...

Re: Live USB Bootable - 4GB root (/) limit - update out of s

big folders.png Hello Brainout, Thank you very much for your suggestions. Using your steps, I managed to install Mint 17.2 Cinnamon to a Patriot brand 32 GB thumb drive and made it into a bootable USB Linux. As a result, it gave me the rest of the thumb drive as storage, totalling 24 GB. (see pictu...

Re: The definitive dual-booting guide

Husse,

Thanks for your prompt answer. Problem was I didn't fully understand atlef's instructions. Then I poked around and finally got it. Luckily the laptop did not crash. Now that I finally got this right, I will dual boot Mint on the new Samsung NC10 netbook that I bought 2 days ago.

Re: The definitive dual-booting guide

atlef: Thanks for your reply. I pressed alt+F2 and typed in: gksu gedit /boot/grub/menu.1st (with a space before and after gedit like your sample). Then I got the following: ## timeout sec # Set a timeout, in SEC seconds, before automatically booting the default entry # (normally the first entry def...

Re: How to display Chinese words in Open Office Writer

I finally managed to display Chinese words on my Open Office Writer 2.4.1 with English input, and installed with Mint5_Elyssa. In case anyone is interested, these are steps: 1. Open the Mint control panel (Icon at bottom left corner of main page of Mint.) 2. Select Administration 3. click on Languag...

How to display Chinese words in Open Office Writer

I am using Open Office Writer 2.4.1 in my Mint 5 Elyssa. When opening up documents received from other people, they sometimes contain a sprinkling of Chinese characters, but these are displayed as tiny boxes instead of Chinese words. I don't need to type Chinese words with my Open Office Writer, jus...

Mint default itself in dual OS - a problem

I have installed Mint as a dual OS with Windows XP on my computer. However, when starting up, it allows for perhaps three seconds for user to select which OS to boot up, and frequently I'm too slow and it will automatically boot into Mint. How can I make it stop at the selection menu and not continu...

to show Chinese text in Open Office - Word Processor page

All my emails are in English, except some that have a sprinkling of Chinese text in them. When I installed Xubuntu 8.04 on my Thinkpad T42 the Open Office Word Processor V2.4 showed both English and Chinese text without my doing any configuration at all. I have now installed Linux Mint 5 Elyssa on a...
