Re: "glitchy" mouse pointer
I have this issue on 19.3 Mate 64 , but am unable to install either the synaptics or evdev drivers. Command line gives me; Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages hav...

Re: Dual-Booting Linux Mint MATE WITH Linux Mint Cinnamon
MATE and Cinnamon are just desktop enviroments. The base installs are the same. You don't have to have separate installs for each DE.
MATE is supposed to be a lighter DE than Cinnamon.

Re: Sound volume very low compared to Win7
Good point, WinterTroubles.
I assumed that the 150% was overdriving the sound output, but full 150% shows no distortion and sounds about as loud as 100% on Win7.

Re: Sound volume very low compared to Win7
It's a minor thing really, which is why I asked if anyone else had noticed it. Not a game breaker, more wondering why it was the case.

Sound volume very low compared to Win7
I'm running 17 Cinnamon, very pleased with everything so far.. except the sound. In Win7 I have my volume set around 25%, on Mint 17 it has to be at 50% for a similar level of output.
Anyone else get this?

Re: Upgrade to Linux Mint PETRA
I'll also say that in preparation for this upgrade, when I did a fresh install of 15 I put /home on a different partition. So HOPEFULLY when I do a clean install of 16 at least all my user data is preserved and HOPEFULLY the additional software I installed will install using the backup tool restore ...

Re: Upgrade to Linux Mint PETRA
I'm in the same boat, running 15 and want to go to 16. I had the same issue when I went from 14 to 15.

Short answer no.
Longer answer, you can, it's involved and you may end up with a cludgy system.

Re: freezing mint 15
I had some freezing issues, mouse pointer would move but I couldn't click anywhere. I asked for help on the IRC helpchannel and Clem suggested I update the kernel from the default -19 to a higher version. I found -25 solved the issue. You can upgrade the kernel via command line or via the Software M...

How are you trying to install the driver? From a download? if so try the device drivers option in System Settings instead

Re: How to get desktop panel to show on second display
Try restarting Cinnamon from the ^ symbol on the right of the panel. Failing that try logging out and back in.

Are there two displays showing in the System Settings>Display? If so drag the black bar at the top of the pink representations of the screeens to the larger of the two.

Re: Installing video drivers, Mint 15
bellesoreilles, you should really start a new thread to ask your own question
having said that is there a reason you didn't leave the recommended driver on? As the messgage indicates the propriety drivers are not suitable for your , I presume, embedded graphics.

Re: mint 15 cinnamon crashes
My Cinnamon started crashing to the login window and having weird grpahical glitches. I asked on the linuxmint-help channel and it was suggested I go Menu>System Settings>Device Drivers. I had the default, top option (recommended) selected. Choosing the updates option initiated the AMD drivers insta...

Re: Installing video drivers, Mint 15
I had issues with my ATI/AMD graphics this morning and was advised, on the #linuxmint-help IRC, to go to Menu>System Tools>System Settings>Device Drivers. I had the default xserver-xorg-video-ati(recommended) selected and chose the fglrx-updates. After a reboot I had the AMD Catalyst drivers and Con...
