Re: Cassette audio to cd/dvd [SOLVED]

That entirely depends on the turntable, amp and speaker setup, the cheap one's are useless and the expensive one's.... are WAY above my wallet range. Also depending on how well the record was mastered sometimes there is no difference and sometimes there is a obvious difference, especially many newer...

Re: Cassette audio to cd/dvd

Casettes are basically lossy versions of vinyl.... so going wav or flac will do you no good.

Re: Cassette audio to cd/dvd

Audacity works fine, just record the whole thing and cut it apart after.... the problem with especially old cassettes though is because of the stretching over time and the mechanical motion the resulting audio gets a odd occasional distortion. Dunno if there is a filter that will remove that.

Per Application Network Monitor

Without again painstakingly going through and attempting to understand each monitor program (did that years ago and it proved incredibly frustrating)... is there a program that both monitors network traffic live and/or stores the data so a history can be built up on a per program basis as apposed to...

Re: Linux mint 19.1 cannot shutdown

Stop hijacking the thread if you're not going to help the OP. Giving general background on a mostly ignored eyesore is not hijacking Though that said it's possible that one specific program is blocking the shutdown, in my personal nightmare it happened to be qbittorrent. Only found this out acciden...

Re: fireprompt application firewall

Firepropmt I can find nothing concrete on, opensnitch at this point is still very much a work in progress and many people cant even get it installed..... it's development seems more active than Douane though.

There's no need to write things like that just because you can't solve it.
Case in point hahaha there is no universal fix because no one can figure out why it suddenly started becoming a problem.

Re: Linux mint 19.1 cannot shutdown

Strange infinite shutdowns have been a problem for a while now and no one seems to REALLY have a universal fix for it, LM19 seems to be becoming the win98 on mint, it's the best yet but has the oddest problems....

And this is surprising? If you use windows software you are vulnerable to windows viruses.... just also install a proper AV ffs

Re: return to windows emotional support group

Personally with free versions avast is the only option, the others are either inadequate or too awkward.... though avast has gotten extra awkward of late. I never bother with AV scores any more, they focus on the wrong things and rarely (if at all) criticize the most common design flaws..... essenti...

Re: What is your most favorite software program you just cant (and wont) live without?

Have to use Chrome sometimes.... the skin annoys the hell outta me. I want menu's that don't hide their options within other options please.... this is a PC NOT a tablet. The only piece of software I have come to not be able to live without is copy handler, for windows...... NOTHING is it's proper e...

Re: "Best" file manager

Honestly, extra panels and tabs tend to just confuse me. It's so much easier to just have multiple instances/windows you can plop. Also you never really want the file manager itself doing file transfers that always manages to cause problems with bulk transfer.

Re: Cinnamon 19.1 desktop slower clumsier less user friendly

After finally getting 19.1 myself I have to agree, it's not perfect but it's not a disaster either. The only thing missing is multiple line taskbars but that's never been a cinnamon feature anyway.

Re: M$ is readying a consumer Microsoft 365 subscription bundle

Except I did not say recession I said depression. Multiple recessions are inevitable, the breathing of the economy. The problem is when they come too close together and cause a cumulative effect or a major recession becomes a depression because of timing. If nothing else it would be interesting to s...

Re: Choosing new PC for Linux, thoughts and advice wanted

I have found that with cheap graphics cards a 500W PSU is fine but higher end one's tend to in practice require a 600W min especially if you have more than one HDD and multiple fans. With SSD's this might not quite be the case though assuming they draw less?

Re: 19.1. desktop slower clumsier less user friendly

So they took the one option that everyone usually disables in games (smoothing.... especially mouse smoothing) and applied it to the whole system?
