Re: LO stuck printing landscape (or portrait)

Solved, at least for now.

At the print dialog I selected another printer, and it displayed the page correctly.

I then re-selected the Brother printer, and it also was right.

Hope this sticks.

[Solved] LO stuck printing landscape (or portrait)

Strange problem that appeared today. Suddenly when I print from LO Calc or Writer via CUPS to my Brother laser it locks into either Landscape or Portrait and there seems to be no way to change it. Specifically, I can change the page orientation in LO , but in the print dialogue for the Brother it wi...

Just to be complete, Ugly Nemo returned today with no warning.

I'd sure love to know why....

nemo -q

Re: Code::Block mysteries

OK, just to follow up, it seems that the only reason for the problems was the lack of a suffix on the file names.

If I change newfile to newfile.c it does what's expected.

Re: Code::Block mysteries

Wow - fascinating stuff about the use of colons. I have to say that if your book is called "Absolute Beginner's Guide to C Programming" and it asks you to use a specific tool, you really need to know: a) That what you tell people to do will work, every time b) That if something <i>doesn't</i> work i...

[SOLVED] Code::Block mysteries

Picked up a beginner C programming book, which suggests using Code::Blocks. Got it installed, with the various dependencies, but am running into two issues. 1) Per the book, I create a new empty file, type in the code then click the little yellow "Build" button. (GNU GCC compiler) 2) This prompts me...

God! I am SOOO Glad for Linux!

Having just spent AN HOUR trying to install a printer on a new Windows 10 laptop, I have to say I will never, ever complain about Linux and Hardware again. I swear to God, the HP Printer is plugged into the wireless router, and Windows COULDN'T FIND IT! Even when we gave it the IP address! Finally h...

Re: Firefox 40 gobbling resources like crazy

Just to follow up: I finally nuked my old .mozilla folder and started fresh. After syncing with Firefox central I'm running with 14 tabs open, and hitting 600+ megs and 34% CPU usage. Ultimately something in the old profile was gumming up the works. It seems that "delete your mozilla profile" is the...

Re: Firefox 40 gobbling resources like crazy

As of this morning, after about nine hours, FF has settled in at about 800 MB of memory and about 30% CPU. This is with no add-ons or plug-ins, and judging by other people's experience this is high. (Although no where near as bad as the last versions of Chrome, that I finally abandoned for Firefox.)...

Re: Firefox 40 gobbling resources like crazy

After 10 1/2 hours Firefox has crept up to using a Gig of memory, and somewhat more CPU. It appears that every tab is using a bit more memory than before. Re: Firefox 40 gobbling resources like crazy

After just a few minutes after restarting from the steps above (involving the profiles) the memory usage is climbing fast - back up to 700+ MB. I then nuked the add-ons, which turn out to be: Custom Tab Width Mint Search Enhancer (which I guess came pre-installed) After restart, and refreshing all t...

Re: Firefox 40 gobbling resources like crazy

FWIW, did this: Close FF. Open your file-manager and make hidden files visible. Rename the folder .mozilla to .mozilla.bck Start FF, this will create automatically a new FF-profile. Check. To get back to your old profile: Close FF. Delete the new folder .mozilla Rename the folder .mozila.bck back to...

Firefox 40 gobbling resources like crazy

Possibly connected, but for the last few days Firefox seems to be gobbling resources like crazy, and has slowed to a really annoying pace, Again, this happened immediately after one of the last couple of FF updates. Hopefully later I can try deleting the profile to see if that fixes it, but in the m...

Re: Libre Office - Spell Check not working [SOLVED]

Arrrgh! Just installed 17.2 on a new hard drive, and as happens every time that I install Mint I wind up screaming "Not again! How the hell do I get spellcheck to work?" Yet another twenty minutes googling to find the command line to install my Canadian dictionary. This really should be handled from...

Hmmm... never would have guessed that either. Perhaps it's time for me time file a feature request to add text explaining that to the setting panel.

Re: Disable Caps Lock in Mint 17 Cinnamon

CAPS LOCK - ah - some of these things aren't in entirely obvious places unless you already know where they are. Hot Corners - I didn't enable or disable anything, but it seems that they're disabled by default. I think? The Hot Corners menu choices are kind of vague. (Image below). Hot_corners.png I'...

[SOLVED] Disable Caps Lock in Mint 17 Cinnamon

Installed Mint 17 a couple of days ago, and set out to turn off the two things that I dislike most - If I can find where to do it! CAPS LOCK - this setting was moved back in Mint 15 to: Open System Settings from the menu. Open Regional Settings in the Preferences category. Go to the Layouts tab. Cli...

Quick upgrade from Olivia to 17.1

Sorry, I'm sure this info lives somewhere on the Internet, but I haven't quite found it. The hard drive on my totally up to date 17.1 64 Cinnamon machine just quit. (damn you Seagate!). I've plugged in an old drive running Mint 15 which booted fine. What's my quickest route to getting everything upd...

Re: swap - deleted ALL data IN DRIVE

Followup: In the end I lost little more than a couple of months of dog photos - no big deal. Lucky for me my last hard drive had been dying and was replaced less than two months ago, so most files were still backed up on it. Testdisc didn't recover anything, but Photorec was amazing for pulling just...

Best Current Bittorrent Client

(Or just useful advice) I'm running a fresh install of Mint 17 Cinnamon, and have been using Transmission for torrent downloads. I suspect that my ISP is throttling Bittorrent traffic, as things seem rather slow. Right now I'm downloading a file with dozens of seeds, and hundreds of peers, and it's ...
