Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam

It appears that I am at least partially correct in my assumptions about Compiz. I completely uninstalled Compiz, and guess what? Print Screen works beautifully. To add further weight to the argument, I happened to have a terminal window opened after reinstalling Compiz and running compiz --replace t...

Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam

Don't throw your AMD cards away just yet folks, because I'm having the same problem, and am running Nvidia prop. drivers. Other users have clearly stated that they are having similar problems with Intel HD. So it only makes sense to graduate from the AMD video driver theory. I am inclined to think t...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Currently using LM9 with Gnome 2. Would most likely move to KDE in the future, as currently, it seems to be most promising for my needs. Cinnamon and/or Mate are well on their way to maturing as viable options, but again, if I had to change right this instant, I would go for KDE.

Re: Problems printing on all-in-one Lexmark X5470 aka 5400se

I saw a post on this issue as I ran into the same with an X5650. Apparently, it is a little know fact that Lexmark does have a site called support.lexmark.com. It is a self explanatory site that allows you to choose drivers for Winbloze but if you look at the links a little harder, you will find you...

Re: Floppy drive Mint 8 Helena

hi tridentower, i know how frustrated you must be about this floppy issue. every since mint 6, i've had the "unable to mount floppy" error each time i try to mount it from the desktop. of course, it still shows up as mounting after the error message, and about 15 seconds worth of moaning and groanin...

Re: Linux Mint 7 XFCE released!

if you right click on the bottom panel, a menu pops up. scroll down to "add to panel" and another window pops up which contains a bunch of different widgets and such that you can add to the panel. scroll down to the "menu bar"(a custom menu bar) selection and then highlight it, and click add. it wil...

Re: Floppy disk error

Thank you for your response. However, the cable is installed properly. As I noted in my initial post, all is well in XP. I can do anything I want with the floppy drive. In fact I had to resort to an XP boot to create the bootable disk that I needed. I also noticed that the KDE desktop for some reaso...

Floppy disk error

Can anybody explain why I can't seem to mount the floppy drive in Mint 7? I have tried 3 different drives, I triple checked the floppy cable, and I bought 10 new diskettes(the old ones were indeed part of the problem). However I still get the "unable to mount the device" error. I downloaded Mint 5 a...

Re: Two improvements for Mint - It must be done!

I would just like to drop my two cents in the mix here and try to help the discussion back to a "matter of fact" discussion. Many of you out there are far more capable than I with Linux. In fact I would be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat envious of those who are efficient with the command line int...

Problems with DVD-ROM and DVD-RW/RAM drive

Hello all. I consider myself a semi-newbie, so I suppose I've posted in the right forum. After bouncing back and forth from Mint 5 and 6, I decided on version 6 since it had the latest video drivers ready to install for my latest hardware upgrades. After all, I am a Windows zombie, and I want as eas...

Re: Linux Mint 6 RC1 Bug Thread

EnvyNG seems to be broken so I can't load the drivers for my nvidia graphics cards. It was fine in Mint 5. When I installed Mint 6, it did not appear to have EnvyNG at all. But when you go into control panel, and click on hardware drivers, the proprietary drivers dialogue pops up, and asks you to i...

Re: Elyssa lost sound

One more thought to add into my loss of sound dilemma. I just tried to play a CD, and it works fine. So it does not appear to be a hardware malfunction. I also tried some online games, and at least the one that I tried actually has sound again. Still no sound with Chromium, and there was no login so...

Re: Elyssa lost sound

Thanks for your reply. I went into the panel just like you mentioned, went to file-->change device, and it gave me a list of devices. The soundblaster card was the one that was selected to work, which is the one that I believed was configured during the install process. I suppose it had to be since ...

Elyssa lost sound

I am an Elyssa Newbie. I've tried several other distros on and off over the past 5 years or so, only to be frustrated with hardware issues. Although, at this time, I can't quite make a complete jump to Linux from XP, Elyssa is by far, the easiest distro that I've worked with. And I might add that th...
