Re: gm10's Linux Mint Tools PPA

gm10 I was trying to be clear I wasn't taking away from your efforts on mintupdate. Hopefully that came across. I've never tried your personal version so cannot speak to that but it obviously works quite well for some. The new indicator stuff isn't Cinnamon specific. The goal is to usable across any...

Re: gm10's Linux Mint Tools PPA

I can only say that since these tools are being made by the former developer of the official Update Manager of Linux Mint, I wouldn't worry about their quality. :) Credit where it's due. gm10 put a good bit of effort into the Update Manager for the last release and deserves credit for that. But you...

Re: gm10's Linux Mint Tools PPA

By the way, seems official Mint fixed the issue with the official Update Manager's tray icon being invisible or only half-showing on Cinnamon. It is my understanding that my PPA's version never had the issue to begin with but please correct me if I'm wrong and I will look into it. The problem seems...

Re: Nemo and its 1001 flaws! :( Bookmark icons change on click

That "circle with a red line through it" thing you keep mentioning is just the icon you get when it can't find the icon that it wants. It should have no effect in actual use and likely nothing to do with the mounts themselves. Though in years of using Nemo I've never seen such a thing so could be wr...

Re: GTK Alternate Button Order

I used to be bothered by things like this but I think you just get used to it. Also, it's not possible to make Linux work like Windows anyway. Thank God. The one thing that really bugged me was that in Linux most DEs don't have the option of right clicking a scroll bar and being able to jump to tha...

Re: Approximately how many are we ?

For a bit of mostly OT but related to Mint alpha and you: I've ended up replacing caja with the latest nemo build in my MATE environment by the way. I still prefer how caja does some things but the technical advantage of nemo over caja overall has just become too big to ignore (and my caja is git m...

Re: Approximately how many are we ?

I'm really not surprised by that drop in numbers. At first it's a novelty. And then people will start to realize that alpha really means alpha. And sometimes things are broken. I hope that people who do use it, use it how it's meant. For testing. And that they take the time to report the problems th...

Haha. Maybe that number of 10 users is looking more and more realistic all the time ;)

Re: Approximately how many are we ?

I recently heard a Canonical employee talking about this. They seem to have some idea because of the number of Mint machines that hit their repos. He put the number at around a half a million. Cool. :D - 5 of the mentioned Mint systems should be mine, on 3 different machines. (Not that anyone will ...

Re: Approximately how many are we ?

It isn't the first time I've heard him bring up numbers like this in a podcast or interview. Have heard him talk about them for the Ubuntu based ElementaryOS as well so I'm assuming there is something to them.

Doesn't look like it offers anything you can't do with just the mouse under Linux.

Re: Approximately how many are we ?

I do believe Alan Pope talks about it here a ways into the discussion. This isn't the first time I've heard him talk about something like this and give similar numbers.

Re: GTK Alternate Button Order

Ah. It does seem like just left clicking the trough would be simpler than using a menu unless it provides some really useful options.

Re: ...time for Linux Mint to go. Huh?

To be fair, I think people over state the whole "window refugee" thing. Yes they are out there but only a very, very small percentage of Windows users would ever even consider installing a whole new OS. And those are mostly going to be the computer enthusiast types who are likely to actually do a bi...

Re: Distrowatch stats for LM?

I'm not sure how anyone really has much belief in those distrowatch stats. Mint was on top for a very long but even as much as I'm a fan of Mint, I seriously doubt anything even comes close to Ubuntu as a desktop linux distro.

Re: ...time for Linux Mint to go. Huh?

I'm not sure how anyone takes these articles seriously. The minute you read the line about how Mate is in maintenance mode, all the authors credibility goes right out the window.
