Re: Installing KDE Plasma on Mint 19 Tara (Cinnamon)

I often have multiple DE's installed for testing purposes with no issue. I've never tried mixing KDE and Cinnamon but have seen people report issues with doing so on several occasions. If the plan is to install KDE and get rid of the original desktop, I personally would start with something besides ...

Re: Shutter icon disappear and the reappear in panel

Do you by chance have support for indicators enabled in System settings->General? If you do, try turning it off. I use shutter all the time and I've not seen the issue.

No. There are no plans for a Mate edition. This has been stated many times on the blog and probably talked about here a good bit.

Re: Washed out desktop background image in Mint 19 Virtualbox VM

Open a terminal and try

Code: Select all

gsettings set org.cinnamon.muffin background-transition 'none'
That setting was added specifically for working around issues with the background in vbox. Hopefully that helps.

Re: Multi-monitor high-dpi scaling issues

Per monitor scaling currently isn't possible. It's a limitation of X11. It's one of the supposed advantages of moving to Wayland but that also brings other issues. May I ask what the "Auto" scaling option is for? I have a 4k screen and setting it to "Normal" or "Auto" seem to be the same. Nothing a...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

This .. and the fact that a significant proportion of these people will simply go out and buy a new computer when it stops working, rather than fix it or actually reinstall the OS. One of the most sane things said in this thread. Most people don't care what OS they are running. They also have zero ...

Re: Is Linux Mint ugly?

Main thing: Linux system is here because all those people donations, Ignoring what people wish about Linux Mint is broking one most important RULE. "Customer is always right"!! It looks to me, Linux is adapting Windows attitude..."We know better". How many times I read about "side sliders" are thin...

Re: Is Linux Mint ugly?

Thought that went without saying. You'd think so but from reading this thread I think maybe it did need to be said ;) for example, Ubuntu MATE comes with the mate-tweak tool with a nifty dropdown to easily switch between a few pre-defined and very different panel layouts, Mint MATE has nothing like...

It looks like the Ravefinity themes are no longer being worked on and were never updated to support newer gtk versions. There is nothing we can do about that.

Re: Microsoft to start charging monthly fee for Windows 7...

I honestly fail to see the issue here. Windows 7 has been around a long time. It's nearing EOL. That's how it works. It was already supported much longer than many Linux distros. This issue just seems a little like a click-baity excuse for people to rant and type the word Microsoft wrong :)

my computer is my property and i should get to choose if i even want to install or not install flatpak to be used on my system... That's fair. And you get to do that. It's just in the repo, not in your computer; in other words, it's not on your property. Just being offered in your local shopping ma...

Yeah, it properly hilights in Nemo. I'll try to fix that. As for the green... well I can't ditch that ;) That choice was made long before my time. Color variations are planned for Mint-Y though so people will have a choice. Thanks for nice demo of the problem. Do you happen to know the name of the e...

Unless I'm missing what he's talking about, Nemo doesn't suffer from the issue. That means it needs to be fixed.

Re: Maya & Lightwave - suggest Linux native alternatives?

@JosephM: Houdini? I just checked their website and under the Linux distributions there's a Mint 13+ (64bit) Woohoo! I'll see how the demo version goes, but I'm already liking what I see on their webpage. You can use the versions built for Ubuntu. They always ran fine for me on Mint. They have the ...
