Re: New Linux Mint 19.2. is coming to town soon...
Really looking forward to it. Intending to use it as my main OS again as it's been my second install after Manjaro for about a year. I am a Mint user first but fancied a proper go with Manjaro to see how it went. It is a superb OS and I have enjoyed my time with it, but ease of use is not its USP an...

Re: REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website
I don't quite follow. If the website wouldn't use GitHub account, it would have to have its own database for account information. One way or the other, you'd still be registering an account. I somewhat follow. To register for everything Mint-related I think I'd need 5 or 6 accounts (does the blog u...

Re: REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website
Well yeah but what if it just let you use your Google account to leave a message? Seems a simpler way to engage with users than asking them to create new accounts for things they really will have no other use for. It's not like I'm gonna, oh I dunno, fork a desktop environment or something all of a ...

Re: REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website
Yeah I know how to create an online account. I just don't especially wish to create yet another account I've no interest in just to report bugs. I'm not a developer, just a user. I already have a bundle of accounts for various websites doing nothing, and I've resolved not to make any more for trivia...

REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website
Could I make a request? I'd like to be able to post up bugs etc on the Spices website, but I'm finding that it wants me to have a GitHub login. I don't want a GitHub login. I'd have no other use for it other than to post a bug or two or thanks or whatever on the Spices website so I have no interest ...

Re: 19.1 Tessa Stability
Superb release! Updated my 19.0 Cinnamon to 19.1, and the improvement is huge. The memory leak I experienced is now gone (yay!), and I absolutely love the new look. Really needed doing imho, and is pleasingly modern and easy to use. Everything is so [expletive] fast! Thrilled to be back on Mint! Mer...

Re: Identifying a memory leak
Don't think it is anything to do with file copying, but I do think it's a Nemo/Cinnamon bug. Very high CPU usage at the moment with only Chrome and one tab open, and also memory usage going up and down all the time, currently at 3.0GiB usage and rising. PC has been just since the morning and this ha...

Re: 404 error when installing themes from settings menu
Still not working almost a month later. Settings tells me my cache is out of date, but refreshing it results in the message "An error occurred trying to access the server. Please try again in a little while". Also noticed that when trying to add a comment on the Spices website, it won't let me proce...

Re: Identifying a memory leak
Having a similar problem here. Memory usage shoots up, but seems to occur when copying files. I'll keep an eye on it, but I am definitely noticing it just moving files around from my PC to various hard drives and flash drives etc. It starts off OK but before long my (admittedly now very paltry) 4GB ...

Solved. Like an idiot I'd installed the package mesa-va-drivers and this messed up the playback. All good now I've removed the package.

[SOLVED] Xplayer problem
Hi folks. I was messing about with my new install of Mint 19 Cinnamon 64 bit earlier, and needed to get Wine running for one of my favourite games. Had a bit of fun there, and it turned out I needed 32 bit compatibility which I duly installed (Mesa 32 bit packages). After this, the game runs brillia...

Re: Boring Mint??
I love the idea that people find it boring. It's hilarious. My daughter has been trying to use her Windows 10 laptop recently for various things like completing homework and applying for jobs. The amount of swearing that goes on when it just won't do what she wants it to! A bit of "boring" in these ...

404 error when installing themes from settings menu
Anyone else having this issue? I'm using Mint Cinnamon 19 Tara 64 bit. If I go into the settings and attempt to install a new theme, upon hitting refresh it returns a 404 error. Of course, I can install the themes from the Spices website (which I did) but I do prefer the system settings for this tas...

Re: I'm sick of FUD and misinformation regarding Linux Mint
Very interesting discussion and I'm glad someone here has started it. I too have noticed a lot of negativity in the Linux world, though I don't frequent Reddit. I do however, listen to one or two Linux podcasts and I have noticed some downright snobbery when it comes to Linux Mint that frankly baffl...

Re: Who have you referred to Linux Mint?
I converted someone! Beyond immediate family, I have never done this before! Not to go into too much detail, got into a discussion with a bloke in my office who was fed up with W10. He was asking me about it and I had to own up and say I hadn't used Windows since W7 in 2009, so I couldn't really off...

Re: Security Flaw in Ubuntu Guest Login
Just read your original thread Lucap, and it is indicative of when self styled experts wade into a discussion to talk it down. You were right to raise it and be alarmed imho. It's blase to say "oh just do this" while disregarding the fact that potentially thousands upon thousands of people have this...

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME
My personal feeling on all of this is that it is fantastic news. I say that but I'm extremely sad that this didn't play out for Canonical however. There wasn't much wrong with Unity imho and it was a nice modern desktop (though it was a bit too fussy for my tastes), and I'm even more sad that the ph...

Re: Mint 18 - the besk desktop. Period.
I don't think it's even that. Some users are clearly just fools (who quits a distro because they don't like one of the theme options that isn't even default?), and another reason is that Mint is very, very popular now and and it's cool to get on the backlash bandwagon. Very similar to what Ubuntu we...

Re: Mint 18 - the besk desktop. Period.
Anyone else here though, who gets really wound up by crap reviews and poor journalism? was just reading Dark Duck's review ( http://linuxblog.darkduck.com/2016/07/linux-mint-18-cinnamon-pity-pity-pity.html ), which I discovered via Distrowatch. I cannot take any review seriously which implants a hug...
