Re: Grub Customizer or no Grub Customizer?

I wiped out my Windows 10 boot not a few weeks ago. Accidentally formatted the EFI partition. In my defence I haven't been up to date with EFI at all since it's introduction, so I've had to learn a bit to keep up. The last PC I bought was back in like 2008 and has only just been put to rest. I bough...

Re: Grub Customizer or no Grub Customizer?

That's probably because you didn't change as much as I did, during the test. I shuffled the kernel booting order around and set a nice menu background. I let GC do its worst. Ah I see. No I only did the basics - I too changed the grub theme and background but I also changed the timeout an...

https://i.postimg.cc/Lq8yzMxN/Screenshot-from-2020-05-08-15-23-24.png That's the folder. Like I say I can see the new backup folder, but nothing else out of the ordinary. I don't use a virtualbox though - this is a 'to the metal install', whether that makes a difference I don't know. I get what you...

Re: Grub Customizer or no Grub Customizer?

The latest commit to the Master branch of Grub Customizer on Launchpad was on October 13, 2018: https://code.launchpad.net/~danielrichter2007/grub-customizer/+git/grub-customizer/+ref/master So it's safe to assume that GC still works with proxified files. Which, incidentally, should make my 2019 te...

Re: Grub Customizer or no Grub Customizer?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Grub Customiser operates in the way that article states it does nowadays. Firstly, it's actually in Ubuntu's repositories so you don't have to install a PPA on the latest Ubuntu. Also, while it does create a backup folder as you describe, it doesn't seem to ...

Re: Is it time for me to upgrade my old PC?

Looks like brainwashing blitz led by Microsoft and the hardware/software/AV companies has worked. Big panic when an O/S EOLs or a computer is more than 2 years old. Nobody bothers to ask themselves the question: Does the current computer meet my needs? Had 2 recent visits from my neighbour w7 users...

Re: Cinnamon Themes

Those Cinnamox themes are absolutely gorgeous! I really hope you keep them up to date as I would love to continue using them. Currently on the Kashmir-blue one but I can use any of these quite happily.

Stunning!

Re: Is it time for me to upgrade my old PC?

Lol, thanks for all the replies folks! Putting me right! Memory unfortunately cannot be upgraded. The motherboard will only take the amount I have as maximum. I did look into my CPU and how it stands now but the general take was that it was so old now (it was released in 2009) and really needed upgr...

Re: Is it time for me to upgrade my old PC?

Yeah I'm really happy that it made it this far, and that's why I got it like this in the first place. It doesn't owe me anything. It was bought circa 2008 actually but it had an Athlon CPU that I upgraded a couple of years after. I then stuck the GPU in, a better PSU, and it's been awesome and stabl...

Is it time for me to upgrade my old PC?

I dunno folks, I'm on the fence here. One the one hand I'd like a new toy, but on the other my current PC runs...fine. I suppose it's a psychological thing really. Mint runs absolutely amazingly well on it, I don't do any gaming on it beyond retro stuff. But would I do more if I had a new one? My cu...

Re: New Linux Mint 19.2. is coming to town soon...

Really looking forward to it. Intending to use it as my main OS again as it's been my second install after Manjaro for about a year. I am a Mint user first but fancied a proper go with Manjaro to see how it went. It is a superb OS and I have enjoyed my time with it, but ease of use is not its USP an...

Re: REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website

I don't quite follow. If the website wouldn't use GitHub account, it would have to have its own database for account information. One way or the other, you'd still be registering an account. I somewhat follow. To register for everything Mint-related I think I'd need 5 or 6 accounts (does the blog u...

Re: REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website

Well yeah but what if it just let you use your Google account to leave a message? Seems a simpler way to engage with users than asking them to create new accounts for things they really will have no other use for. It's not like I'm gonna, oh I dunno, fork a desktop environment or something all of a ...

Re: REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website

Yeah I know how to create an online account. I just don't especially wish to create yet another account I've no interest in just to report bugs. I'm not a developer, just a user. I already have a bundle of accounts for various websites doing nothing, and I've resolved not to make any more for trivia...

REQUEST - Cinnamon Spices website

Could I make a request? I'd like to be able to post up bugs etc on the Spices website, but I'm finding that it wants me to have a GitHub login. I don't want a GitHub login. I'd have no other use for it other than to post a bug or two or thanks or whatever on the Spices website so I have no interest ...

Re: 19.1 Tessa Stability

Superb release! Updated my 19.0 Cinnamon to 19.1, and the improvement is huge. The memory leak I experienced is now gone (yay!), and I absolutely love the new look. Really needed doing imho, and is pleasingly modern and easy to use. Everything is so [expletive] fast! Thrilled to be back on Mint! Mer...

Re: Identifying a memory leak

Don't think it is anything to do with file copying, but I do think it's a Nemo/Cinnamon bug. Very high CPU usage at the moment with only Chrome and one tab open, and also memory usage going up and down all the time, currently at 3.0GiB usage and rising. PC has been just since the morning and this ha...

Re: 404 error when installing themes from settings menu

Still not working almost a month later. Settings tells me my cache is out of date, but refreshing it results in the message "An error occurred trying to access the server. Please try again in a little while". Also noticed that when trying to add a comment on the Spices website, it won't le...

Re: Identifying a memory leak

Having a similar problem here. Memory usage shoots up, but seems to occur when copying files. I'll keep an eye on it, but I am definitely noticing it just moving files around from my PC to various hard drives and flash drives etc. It starts off OK but before long my (admittedly now very paltry) 4GB ...
