Re: Memory leak in web browser?
I think I have the same problem. My memory keeps increasing until it is almost full. Then it starts consuming my swap file (which I have never used) until my computer becomes unusable unless I restart it. I thought it was a Firefox 76 issue due to the recent update. But, I think I have the same prob...

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
I decided to install Mint 18, which appears to be working. The installation procedure was similar to my Mint 19.1 installation; Samsung SSD and DVD drive only. I can even access the Grub menu whilst holding down the right shift key during boot. Amazing! :) I have successfully updated to Mint 18.3. N...

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
I tried commenting out the "GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 " instruction, and gently(?) beat the escape key just before exiting the BIOS screen. No difference. Grub refuses to reveal itself.
I feel like trying my luck with installing Mint 18.

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
I have made changes to the grub configuration files as requested. When I rebooted the machine, it booted into Ubuntu and quickly displayed the debugging output. I don't know where the debug file is located. You wrote: Also add the line GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE="menu" after the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX...

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
It seems that motherboard's early implementation firmware is a real pain in the you know what Yes, I am tempted to get a new computer. LOL! I tried holding down the right shift key during booting Ubuntu and Mint, but the grub menu does not appear. Regarding editing the grub.cfg file... I am assumin...

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
Could you run sudo grub-mkconfig 2>/dev/null|grep ^menuentry with both drives attached. This is the result from Ubuntu: menuentry 'Ubuntu' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option 'gnulinux-simple-3181a13a-e420-4d2e-acc5-969d53ad70fe' { menuentry 'Linux Mint 19.2...

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
In my BIOS settings, I have 'quick boot', which is set as 'disabled'. I also have 'no-execute memory protect', which is also set as 'disabled'. According the Gigabyte manual, the memory protection only works if the CPU supports such feature. My motherboard/CPU is from the stone age. :) UEFI is uncha...

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
Hi Larry, Thanks for your reply. Before all this trouble started, I kept upgrading Mint from Mint 18. I didn't have any issues with each upgrade. This is the first time I have installed a fresh Mint 19.2. As requested, this is the output using the inxi -G command. mint@mint:~$ inxi -G Graphics: Devi...

Re: Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
Hi WharfRat, thanks for your reply. Yes, I changed all my SATA settings from IDE to AHCI. It didn't resolve the issue/s. I don't understand what the above means - can you clarify this I was referring to the boot menu where you can select to boot Mint19.2 or select Advance options. Unfortunately sinc...

[SOLVED] Cannot boot with internal HDDs connected
I usually ask for help as a last resort. I am stuck. And, I think this is going to give me a bigger headache. :) Mint was working fine for a very long time until yesterday morning when my computer would loop boot without posting. So, I cleared the CMOS, and realised that I have never taken any notes...

There's also Jellyfin, which is based on Emby. Unlike Emby, Jellyfin is open source and does not have any restrictions. People have also mentioned that Jellyfin is faster than Plex. It is currently in early development though.

Re: Raden RX470 on Linux Mint 19
I just installed an rx 580. Everything appears to work well, except for the damn fans, which are constantly running at full speed. Anyway, I also had an annoying flicker. I managed to resolve it by editing the grub boot parameter; changed RUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_...

Instead of flashing a router, maybe you could try using a Raspberry Pi as a vpn router?

Re: vpn - yes or no
I am using a firewall, but a firewall won't hide your IP address. I am using PIA, which works great. The application is very easy to install, and has additional features such as ability to block ads, trackers, etc at the flick of a switch. I also like the ability to switch to a different server/coun...

Re: Boring Mint??
Many years ago when I was using Windows, I was bored and tired. So, I decided to run a virus. Brilliant! The virus program I was using didn't detect the virus, so I spent hours trying to undue the damage. Maybe if you are bored, you could run a Linux virus? Or even better... Ransomware.

I'd probably try Manjaro. If I don't like it, then I'd use Ubuntu.
