Re: Mounting a drive from my old laptop

Thank you for that. I'm seeing what I can do with it now. :D

Mounting a drive from my old laptop

I'm using Mint 19.2 Cinnamon, fresh install. My laptop just died and I'm attempting to mount the old HD to a new laptop (the drive is encrypted with LUKS and is partitioned with LVM). When I plug it in (via a Plugable device that allows me to use a SATA drive on a USB port) it prompts for my passphr...

17.2 KDE Alt+D = ???

I'm running Linux Mint 17.2 KDE with dual monitors and I accidentally pressed Alt+D. Both screens blanked, though I saw a sliver of the previous screen on the left monitor. I saw the cursor still respond to my mouse but I really couldn't get anything else to work. I checked through all the standard ...

Re: LM KDE -> Cinnamon

I ended up trying this thing out in a VM anyway simply because of the need to change settings and have them survive a reboot. If all goes well then I think I will reinstall LM 17.2 Cinnamon over my 17.1 KDE. Home and other things are in their own partitions so this shouldn't be too hard to get it ba...

Re: LM KDE -> Cinnamon

I hadn't thought about trying the new user route. That would eliminate many of the conflict issues that could arise. Thank you for that. As for a live boot from USB, I'll look into that. If I can get it to save settings between reboots then I can test out the Windows network compatibility. All good ...

LM KDE -> Cinnamon

I have LM KDE 17.1 installed and love it (been using LM KDE for many years). I'd like to give Cinnamon another shot since the last time I did was version 15 and I know a lot has changed. Is it at all a reasonable idea to have both Cinnamon and KDE available on my system? Can I just install the Cinna...

Re: Update Manager not showing everything?

Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing that screen, so thank you for the reminder. How do you know what level an update is if it is not on the list in Update Manager? Should I enable all of them and then selectively update the visible 4/5 entries as I think they are necessary?

Update Manager not showing everything?

Update Manager (LM17 XFCE) was showing that my system was up to date even after a refresh. However, sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade showed that there were 30 or so updates (looked like some systemd stuff and other things). I went ahead and upgraded even though Update Manager was not showing...

Re: XFCE Auto Logon

I honestly looked in /etc/mdm/mdm.conf but not close enough. It pointed me to /usr/share/mdm/defaults.conf (that details the options you pointed out) which pointed me to /usr/share/mdm/distro.conf . But after reading into all of that... I found that there is a graphical configuration tool afterall, ...

XFCE Auto Logon

I've searched but I'm not finding anything that makes sense to me. Admitedly, I'm too used to KDE. How do I set up auto logon with XFCE? Since there is no GUI app for it in XFCE that I've found then I assume I need to modify a configuration file somewhere but I have no clue which one(s) to edit. My ...

Re: Linux Mint 15 KDE and time synchronization

I realize this is an old thread but I also had this issue and tried every fix here without success. What I did to actually fix it on my LM 15 KDE install was right-click on the time in the system tray and select Digital Clock Settings. In the dialog that came up I then selected Time Zone on the left...
