Re: Linux Minut 17 Freezing

Here is a link that seems to offer several workarounds, until the x.org fix (which is already released) reaches the masses:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/ ... mments=all

I'm still testing some of the solutions, I'll post when I have something more concrete.

Re: Linux Minut 17 Freezing

I have found that in my case (and many other) it's an interaction between synaptic touchpad and X.org that causes the freezes. I can't search for the specific Ubuntu bug report at the moment (I'm at work). I suggest plugging a USB mouse and avoid touching the touchpad ; see if the freezes keep comin...

Re: Incorrectly labelled package in update manager.[SOLVED]

This is most certainly a bug in the Update Manager. In my machine, not only does it show 2 updates with the same name, but the name of the first actually changes random-ish-ly when I move the mouse over (It changes 3 or 4 names during a single mouse over!) I thing you shouldn't mark this thread as [...

Re: Linux Minut 17 Freezing

I've been having similar problems for years with my old laptop, where nothing but a REISUB or a hard reboot would work (no Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, and no Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6). My old laptop had an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card, by the way... With my new laptop, which has a NVIDIA GeForce card on, I'm exp...

Re: Upgrade Mint 15 to Mint 16

Even a fresh install doesn't really require much backup, once you get the hang of it. As long as one keeps his home folder in a separate directory (and he's fine with some bloat in the form of deprecated .files), it's pretty straightforward... Plus, much of the configuration of a linux system can be...

Re: Old Adobe Flash Player

Bump!

It really is about time to update flash player or not provide it through an unmaintained package at all...

The adobe-flashplugin package, for example, seems to provide a more recent version, and would probably be more suitable to be installed by default.

Re: Unfaithful copy of mintforum thread! What are they think

I agree that it's pointless... This kind of sites eventually die on their own. It's real people behind keyboards that keep things going.

(And that's true outside of the internet, too, in the world wide world. Damn those bureaucrats though...)

Unfaithful copy of mintforum thread! What are they thinking?

I was searching in google for this term (I'm having some issues with Mint 11): "should i update xorg in linux mint" . So, I found this, quite legitimate, thread: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=38864&start=0 . That was #1 in Google. #4 was this, illegitimate, thread: http://forums.t...

Re: GPG error: BADSIG after adding PPA for deluge

Now THAT was a tricky one! I finally found a solution here: https://answers.launchpad.net/medibuntu/+question/98089 It was hard to find because in most other pages that appear in the ubuntu forums or in launchpad, the solution was some sort of removing and re-adding the keys... There was also an int...

Re: GPG error: BADSIG after adding PPA for deluge

Thanks for replying Old Marcus! Since the keyserver.ubuntu.com server is up and running (I double checked that), I' ve tried many times since yesterday to remove and reinstall the medibuntu GPG key... I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling medibuntu-keyring package, removing and adding again the...

GPG error: BADSIG after adding PPA for deluge [SOLVED]

Re: EXE files from CD

Same with me! Quite annoying... I think I worked around this issue in the past by installing anything windows related on a virtual machine... But that's just a work-around... We probably need to read some serious introduction to linux (book or series of tutorials)... There's something that we miss h...

Re: ATI radeon graphics

The open-source driver is installed by default in Linux Mint 8, so (if your hardware is supported) it should work without you doing anything... I don't know what the message in compiz-check's output really means, and I don't know much about older hardware either, so I can't be of help I'm afraid... ...

Re: ATI radeon graphics

When you use sudo and you are asked to enter your password, you will not see anything while you type but that's okay... (I think this is a security feature or something) Just type the password and press enter... And by the way... 99% of viruses out there won't probably have any effect on your system...

Re: ATI radeon graphics

Hi Mas Catoer! If this is actually your computer there should be a password that you can use as an administrator. In an OEM installation, you have probably chosen this password during installation. In Linux Mint 8 (if OEM installation works fine) the super-user (administrator) password should be the...
