Re: Upgrade from Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa Chinnamon to Linux Mint 18

As long as "Aptik"is compatible with a release....I back up then do a clean install. The latest has been compiled for Ubuntu 16.04, which is where we are with Mint now. Wouldn't leave home without it.

Re: How do I make the Screen stay on longer before it fades out?

System Settings---->Power Management----->Turn off screen when inactive(never or requested time)
System Settings---->Power Management----->Suspend when inactive (never or requested time)
You might want to adjust Screensaver Settings too.

Re: WPS Office menu entry

Really? It's fairly obvious. Arrange your applications as you want by making new instances and by cutting, pasting, drag n drop. You can always restore to default if you don't like the results. You could always uninstall Libre Office if you don't care for it.

Re: Browser Times Out

It would seem your connection has been lost. By your post you state that your connection is through 2 routers. Make an attempt to ping each router and/or modem in an attempt to isolate your problem. Check your connection in Network Manager.

I remember a spurious command I once received in the military. It's unfortunate I wasn't armed with "Mint's Update Manager"

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

My best tip for starting with Linux is......insert the distro CD, DVD or thumbdrive and hang on for the ride. Until you get used to it I would recommend having access to another computer with internet connection to solve any problems you might encounter. Google is your friend. You have to break it t...

Strange, but I can't seem to be able to download xkill. Here are the results of my attempts:
It's already installed....just type xkill in a terminal.

Re: OpenVPN not working correctly

Who is your VPN provider? Surely they have this info on their site. Let us know and we'll see if we can find it for you. It's really easy to set up a client with Network Manager.

Re: wifi login screen doesn't show up

From my experience most hotels just have you open a browser and the login procedure is done there. Try removing all cookies, cache and other garbage from your browser before attempting to login.

Prior to Mint 18 what OS were you using and did your wifi work then? It's quite possible its your adapter, rather than mint. What model of Lenovo are you using?

Re: Error mounting DNS-323 Network Drive [Solved]

I had been mounting mine by the HOSTNAME, on a networked machine for the longest then suprisingly just the other day it would no longer mount as such. Using the IP address did the trick. Error messages tell all.

Ok, sorry, I misunderstood. I guess my eye glasses need an update.
I would advise against a level 3 or 4 update. There are security issues with the nose piece at this time.
