Re: Fresh Install, No sound, as much detail inside as i know

Go to menu-system settings-sound and be sure it isn't set for S/PDIF but to HDMI (or what ever sound output device you have). When I first installed Mint it set the sound to S/PDIF instead of HDMI all I had to do was change to HDMI and it worked. It's worth a try.

Dell Latitude 610 will not load bcm 4306 wifi Mint 17.1-32

I have been trying to get the wifi to work on my Brothers Dell Latitude 610 laptop. It has the Broadcom BCM 4306 modem. If I boot from USB to Mint 13 it will find the card but needs firmware installed. If I boot to Mint 17.1 Cinnamon it will not even recognize the card. I ran lspci in terminal and 0...

About the only thing close to a virus I have seen in Mint 12 to 17.1 is a few add cookies in firefox. Simple fix clear cookies.

Re: Is Linux an operating system?

I guess it comes down to Linux is an OS and the Different Distros are the GUI that users employ. So if you say Linux is a OS, or Mint is a OS, or Ubuntu is a OS, all are correct.

Re: Is Linux an operating system?

I forgot about that NT thing but it is still very simular to DOS lot of the same line strings DIR CLS CD and so forth. The concept is the same though one is the command structure while the other is the GUI.

Re: Is Linux an operating system?

From what I gather, and correct me if I am wrong: Linux is to Mint what DOS is to Windows. Example DOS still runs in the background (Command Line) within Windows, while Linux runs in the background (Terminal) inside Mint or other Distros. So Linux is the fuel and Distro-X is the engine. Does this so...

Re: Mint 17.1 appears in my prefrences in update mgr

I did the upgrade from Cinnamon17 to 17.1 and it is well worth it smoother, faster, and so far no problems at all. I did have some video problems (glitching and freezing) with 17 but after I installed 17.1 and the NVIDIA update all is working better.
