Re: How is DNS managed?

Yep. Lose resolve. The only thing I have in my hosts file is my printer. My router knows everything else on the INSIDE.

Re: tell script to send success or failure email

I think it matters exactly where that code goes. The job runs fine, but no message is being sent. I test sending messages like this and it works. Please see the code from the script below. your code needs to capture the results at a different location in the script? echo "Test message from Linux ser...

tell script to send success or failure email

I have a script that runs once a day at 4:00 am. I have ssmtp setup and configured and when I run: sudo ssmtp me@mine.com it sends the message just fine so I know all that's working. What do I need to add to the script to get it to tell me if the script was successful or not? The script DOES use exi...

email from cron job failing

I have a very simple script that moves files from one location to another once a week. I'd like to send myself an email letting me know it completed successfully. Here's what I have: 0 1 * * Mon ~/TB/scripts/movefiles mail -s "CronJob is run successfully" me@mine.com Without the mail command, the sc...

Re: Batch script to delete then move all files

I was told by Terabyte Unlimited that the linux drive has no way of using VSS or Phylock. That files might change during a backup. Regardless, I own Terabytes Imaging software. Have since 2008 but always used it for Windows which is extremely simple. I have been using it for Linux, you boot from a C...

[SOLVED] Re: Batch script to delete then move all files

lmuserx4849 Thanks. I'll play with that after I setup a virtual machine before I delve that far. I tried to learn gwbasic back in the day. I was pretty happy when others started writing programs. Then came that BBS scene. I ran a Fidonet ASP BBS from '88 to '94. when the Internet ruined all my fun. ...

Re: Batch script to delete then move all files

I'll give that a try. The files are actually on a shared drive, so I expect it to take forever. And a day.

Batch script to delete then move all files

I know absolutely NOTHING about scripting. I'm running Linux Mint 17.3 I need a bash script that will run as a cron job. Let's say I have 2 folders we'll call A and a sub-folder, B. On a day specified by cron, I want to delete all files from B. No errors if none exist, just keep going to step 2. Ste...

Re: How is DNS managed?

I agree with Elizine. I'd say lose the resolv.conf completely. In my 23 years of using the Internet I have never had to modify a single file related to DNS. If you can boot to a CD or USB and have no problems then the answer seems obvious. Put everything back to the default. Perhaps at one time you ...

Re: How is DNS managed?

Sorry if I insult your intelligence here :D As I understand your question.. In the days of old, when the army developed tcp/ip, a file called hosts existed in a folder under /etc/ Of course in Linux/Unix and Mac, that's off the root /etc/hosts. In Windows it's under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. ...

boot disk with share to samba server

The short story is, I want a bootable disk that will connect to a share on a SMB NAS server. On my live machine, it works fine. In fact my /etc/fstab makes the connection. From my fstab: //192.168.1.63/ManCaveSync /media/syncovery cifs credentials=/home/cave-man/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,gid=10...

[SOLVED] Error updating grub2: tail: cannot open ‘(copy)’ for reading: No such file or directory

Actually, I figured it out myself. My clue was cannot open "(copy)"

In /etc/grub.d was a file named 40_custom (copy)

I deleted it and all is well.

Thanks, all!

Error updating grub2: tail: cannot open ‘(copy)’ for reading: No such file or directory

Hello, Running mint mate 17.3 everything up to date. A company called terabyteinc.com makes an app that will automatically make a backup image of Linux. Their app modifies grub. Below are the commands it performs and the content of the relevant files. I'm getting the error: tail: cannot open ‘(copy)...

Re: Dual boot on preconfigured raid

No drives at all. I have the drive(s) partitioned. Windows is running on one, and I want to install Mint on the other. Windows see the drive just fine. Mint doesn't see anything.

Dual boot on preconfigured raid

I have Windoze 10 on an intel raid 0. I want to dual boot mint 17.3 but mint doesn't even see the drive at all, much less the partition I created for it.

How to? I SERIOUSLY don't want to reinstall Windoze.

[SOLVED] Can no longer mount windows share via fstab mount -

Like I say... I can browse to it. All shares on that server are set to everyone full access. I created a new share and it works fine. I guess I'll mark it as solved, as I don't have time to keep playing with it.
