Re: Simplify Command-Line with APT instead of apt-get

It also does away with need to prefix it with sudo as it invokes sudo automatically for actions that require it. I have updated the article to address this feature, thank you for the info. but the team behind Linux Mint decided that APT could be so much better if it were to simplify more tasks. Lin...

Re: Simplify Command-Line with APT instead of apt-get

but the team behind Linux Mint decided that APT could be so much better if it were to simplify more tasks. Linux Mint created a python script to make APT even more useful by replacing more functions that standard APT command hadn’t addressed yet. This is simply not true. apt made by Linux Mi...

Re: Simplify Command-Line with APT instead of apt-get

Could you make this a tutorial actually for Linux Mint? `apt` is a Linux Mint command. You'd have to use `/usr/bin/apt` to use the later developed Debian one. Not on the article itself because this is more of an APT command overview rather than specific to Mint but I posted it here because of the s...

Re: Mintupload

It doesn't matter if you remove mint-meta-kde. It's a file that was of use only once, namely when first installing Mint KDE. mint-meta-kde simply ensures that all needed Mint KDE packages are being installed upon first install. Afterwards, it's just a fossile and about as useful as a tailbone in a ...

Re: Mintupload

Any idea how to remove it from Cinnamon 17.2? I only started using Linux 4 days ago and it's been in my system tray ever since and I have no idea what to do about it. Your timing is pretty perfect actually because I am writing an article for MakeUseof.com right now about Startup Applications. Here ...

Re: Mintupload

I know this thread is old but it was irritating the hell out of me that I couldn't find a solution to stop this application from loading on startup. I finally figured it out so here is the answer. MintUpload is an evil application when running Mint KDE that can't be remove because it is a part of th...

Please Fix the Linux Mint from resulting as Ubuntu

When running Linux Mint 16 or 15 the user agent displays something like: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/27.0 This results in telling websites that Linux Mints are Ubuntu users when they actually aren't. I know Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu but it should try t...

Re: Nemo Continuously Consuming Memory

So to the folk that are having the same problem - can you try this? Simply move everything off your desktop, restart Nemo and move it back again? I am having a memory usage issue with Nemo as well but I do not have any items on my desktop and never do because it just annoys me to have stuff there. ...

Re: Five reasons for what I'm leaving Linux Mint

1. Internet in Linux Mint is a nightmare. With Linux Mint 14 I was unable to connect even with a wired connection, I did have to expect until Mint 15 for being able to do that. Now, it results that I can't connect my PC via wifi neither Mint detects any net, when with Windows I have done it a lot o...

Re: Add a link in the panel?

In Cinnamon, (should also work in MATE but didnt test it) 1. Navigate to the folder that you want to add to the Files Sidebar (the "panel" is the bar referred to as the "taskbar" in windows") 2. Click "Bookmarks" in the main menu and choose "Add Bookmark"...

icon is sitting inside a section that is marked in red, which seems as though it is not editable.

anytime i touch it, it just opens the update manager window...so it seems like an endless loop.

Re: Could VLC replace Totem as the default video player?

Perhaps he was referring to the disk space used? The vlc-data package alone takes almost 30MB on my system, as opposed to totem and it's non-system dependencies, which look to take ~1/3 of that total. Now that Mint has moved away from CD-sized ISOs, however, I don't think that should be a problem. ...

How to Reset Alignment of Panel Tray Icons?

I have a weird error that I can't seem to find any other occasion where this happened to someone. Panel icons for apps are now centered in the middle of the panel for some reason and I can't seem to put them back on the right side where they were. http://i.imgur.com/DIwa7OR.png http://i.imgur.com/DI...

Re: Could VLC replace Totem as the default video player?

Mint 15 comes with Totem and VLC installed by default...not sure why both of them are but they are. So to customize which is used when is not that hard to do. I actually prefer Totem because on Linux VLC is a little bloated when compared to Totem. VLC is AWESOME and by far the best for Windows but o...
