Re: Nvidia driver not loading if I'm faster logging in than it!

Hello again. After several months, I switched over to ubuntu for a while to get rid of the video driver issues I was getting. But after some time I'm back with mint 20 again. I thought this issue might have been fixed but no. But it's different than before. Now I get this notification: https://i.ibb...

Re: Cheap CCTV and NVR system, isolate it from the internet, while allowing myself to access it.

Hi. I believe I do need two physical local networks because if I can connect to the internet from my local network, so could anything else. Even though I configured it not to. These cheap cameras are not reliable. I suspect, and I am probably right, that these little devices are used without the own...

Cheap CCTV and NVR system, isolate it from the internet, while allowing myself to access it.

Hello guys! So just fiddling with these cheap, and almost certainly hackable cctv ethernet cameras, and an nvr. The brand I've never heard of, but I have found it to be in a list of not recommended security cameras due to security issues in their firmware. But they were so cheap I thought I'd give t...

Multiple simultaneous vpn connections

Hello again. Just wondering if anybody has achieved this with openvpn. I still haven't. I work on my laptop from remote locations and need to access my home computer and my work computers. I use openvpn to access them. But I have to keep switching between them. Because most of the time I'm just fetc...

Audio over network using jack

Hi there folks. I've been messing with audio over network. I am currently using jack, and I can succesfully connect using zita-njbridge across the internet. Which is fantastic really, but I have two questions to see if anybody can help. At the moment I have two computers, the computer with me (my la...

SOLVED! Second SSH connection refuses to work without password authentication

There is nothing like spending a whole day trying to figure something out, asking for help on a forum, and then suddenly finding the solution by one's self. Silly me. Before I would do: ssh user@computerA -p 1234 I would get the permission denied error. I should have given it the identity informatio...

Second SSH connection refuses to work without password authentication

Hello friends. I'm back with a problem I think might fit in this forum. Here's my problem. I have a computer called A with linux mint 19 on it and openssh-server installed. I have my laptop, ubuntu. I have created a keypair using the usual ssh-keygen command, followed by the ssh-copy-id -i identitry...

Re: UFW blocking dig and wget.

Solved!

Just solved it myself.

I added the rule with "ufw allow 53". My mistake. I should have used "ufw allow out 53".

Sorry about that.

SOLVED! UFW blocking dig and wget.

Hello again. As usual, I am back with another problem, and it's not coronavirus related :D I am using UFW, with open ports 22, 53, 80, 443, 1194 set to allow. Default incoming and outgoing set to deny. I have also set DEFAULT_FORWARD_POLICY="ACCEPT" in the config file because I couldn't browse the w...

Re: [Mint 18, 19] Using notify-send from a user crontab

I found this solution that worked for me. I'm using mint 19.3 cinnamon. Just pasted these lines into my crontab file: DISPLAY=":0.0" XAUTHORITY="/home/USER/.Xauthority" XDG_RUNTIME_DIR="/run/user/1000" Change "USER" to whatever user you want. Notify-send now works in my scripts using cron. I dunnow ...

Re: Setting up a DIY NAS users and permissions.

Thank you altair4 for your answer. Does your solution imply the user's entire home folder is remote? My nas is meant for file sharing and personal data backup with rsync. I have chosen not to have a raid setup. I am not using samba for some irrational reason because I'm reluctance to use anything mi...

Setting up a DIY NAS users and permissions.

Hello friends. I have a newbie question regarding a DIY file server for multiple users (my children for example, or workers in a small office, etc...). I would like to know if anybody could tell me what the best strategy would be for a file server. Should I have a user called NAS on the file server ...

Re: Nvidia driver not loading if I'm faster logging in than it!

Well this is interesting. I have not done anything to fix this, but at some point or some update, this issue has been fixed. I no longer have to wait at the login screen for the driver to load correctly. Just thought I'd keep this thread up to date, even though it may be mostly unhelpful. Thank you ...

Re: Nvidia driver not loading if I'm faster logging in than it!

Noooo! The problem is back.  It appeared that updating to 19.3 fixed the issue, but it also updated the kernel to 5.3 without me noticing. I use the lowlatency kernels because I do a lot of audio work. After a while, I noticed I was getting xruns in with the jack audio server, so it occur...

Re: [SOLVED] I do not understand the strange behaviour openVPN is giving me! DNS configuration problem.

/etc/resolv.conf BEFORE changing network manager's DNS settings, with or without active openvpn connection: # This file is managed by man:systemd-resolved(8). Do not edit. # # This is a dynamic resolv.conf file for connecting local clients to the # internal DNS stub resolver of systemd-resolved. Thi...
