Re: How to whack winblows viruii using the Mint?

@ Fred Barclay
Any way you could convince your Mum to try Mint?
At 81, she is pretty well set it her ways. Hell, her machine isn't even home yet.

Thanks guys. I'll try your suggestions. The machine is still in the hands of the windows idiots for now. It hasn't come home yet.

Thanks

How to whack winblows viruii using the Mint?

My Mom has a two year old HP desktop machine. She has acquired a serious winblows virus on her 8.1 machine. She has taken it to two local computer shops. The first one couldn't fix it and the other has had it a week and we haven't heard from them either. I read somewhere here you can do that using L...

Re: Mint and Linux definately not a replacement for XP

First, I want to thank these people who replied to the OP. You guys are usually the first to jump in to help frustrated new greenhorns. I don't blame you when you get p!ssed off when somebody just wants to rant or whine. I think some people are just natural whiners. But ... you have to remembe...

Hi all,

I just ran across this about SystemD. Sounds like Linus is really really pissed off.

Re: Dumb question for an Admin of this forum

Hi again, Huh, mine always says "All times are UTC - 5" and right now says DST bc we're on Daylight Savings here for the summer... In your User Control Panel, check what you have set for the Timezone in the "Board Preferences" tab I know mine is right for my zone. Set with LA, which is correct. Even...

Re: Dumb question for an Admin of this forum

Hi EmpireITech, Thanks for your reply. It's probably the world time zones. Eastern Standard Time (EST) is UTC - 5 I believe, with the West Coast (PST) of the US being UTC - 8 I get that part, especially I live in the -8 time zone. I just was curious why it changes from -5 to -8 and back. Like I said...

Dumb question for an Admin of this forum [SOLVED]

Hi, Like I said, a dumb question. :D Either for an Admin or just somebody actually knows. I notice that the times on this server are sometimes @ -5 and sometimes -8. Can somebody explain why that is? Different mirrors? East and West coast of the US? Go ahead and laugh. I'm old enough that I really d...

Re: XFCE or Cinnamon

Mate should be a good choice too. My Dell 3000 with a P4 cpu and 750 meg ram likes it. Ran way better than XP did. I have since updated the ram to all it will take, (2 gigs). I haven't been sorry I did. $30 bucks from amazon.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to install Linux

Hi Flingel, Good grief, bit of a shock, I just tried connecting to the internet wirelessly and it worked! So I guess I must have loaded the b43 driver and not realised it in the confusion! And the sun's just come out too :o) That's how mine worked too, (about a year ago). It was a bit of a shock. :D...

Re: Unable to install Linux

Hi Flingel,

As to the b43 Broadcom wifi card, I have had good luck with this Ubuntu link.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... t%20access

I have a bunch of more b43 links, if you need them.

Good luck, :D

Re: Brand New Linux Mint 13 Maya User-Black Screen on Deskto

Hi spr85sigma, Welcome to the Mint! Do you know which Mint 13 desk top you have? Xfce, Mate, Cinnamon, or KDE? Yeah, those are different desktops (flavors) and the controls are somewhat different. If Mate or Xfce, I can help some. Those are the ones I know a little about. I'm not one of the gurus, b...
