Hello, I just installed linux mint 15 on my old laptop (Dell Latitude D630). It is my first time trying out linux. The computer is pretty old and when it ran windows XP it ran slowly but ok. Ever since I installed Mint 15 on it it became unbearably slow. The mouse sometimes get stuck, sometimes the...

Transitioning from Beginner to Intermediate?

Hi there, First to introduce myself. I'd consider myself in the blurr between a beginner and intermediate Linux person. I can get things up and running, but would love to have a more in-depth understanding. I started Linux for a project which required me to compiling my own Linux From Scratch system...

Re: MDM login screen, preselect last user who logged in

Kudos to this:). I hate the clicking. I wouldn't mind the list of users not being so visible (perhaps a pop-up) because I'm the only user on my laptop-which I guess the majority of Mint users are!

Puppy Linux==the best!
Its amazing how visually aesthetic it is, considering the small size! I loved the bark at startup!

Re: Cinnamon/Spices website

Ditto for the community website. I usually choose 'all' from the search to get the whole listing. This may keep some really good ideas from getting voted if they are not in the most recent lists.

I'm having the same problem :s. I upload the avatar but it doesn't show up. My avatar is below 100kB and all.

At least there should be a warning message of what is being done wrong.

Re: Dual Booting Question?

Yep, installing alongside existing operating system does the job. You can alternatively use Wine. Sure it has issues, but that usually depends on what actually you want to do. You can actually install windows alongside an existing Linux partition, the only problem b...

But its pretty ugly...:s
I liked SLiM's look and MDM is so customization. I don't mind bleeding edge software, provided the developers are active.

Anyways thanks for the suggestion:)

Alternative lightweight login manager?

Hi! What would be alternative Login Managers other than MDM? I have a problem with my screen freezing for around a minute after logging in with MDM and was looking for alternatives. I saw that SLiM was popular as a lightweight DM, but it hasn't been updated for quite some time. Would like to hear yo...

Re: Language Issues with Clock

Just wanted to post the fix to this as I finally managed to figure this out. The reason behind this complication was that I had selected to apply regional settings for my currency in installation. So to fix it, I simply ran gnome-language selector and changed the Regional Format to US English. Probl...

I'm really sorry about your bad experience :s

I'm not an expert but let me try to guide you through.

Updating the kernel should not be too painstaking. Trust me, I've done it!

Could you please post the error you get when trying to update the kernel? It will help us give you some more pointers :).

Language Issues with Clock

Hi!

I am using Mint 15 Cinnamon.

The issue I have is that although my system is set to the English US language settings, my date and time slot in the panel displays the month and day in my local language. What can be done to remedy this?

Thanks in advance:)

Re: feedback from a new user

* Login screen has many issues. This is the first thing people see when they look at your system. It should look good . Appearance does matter. Usability issue: There's a vertical list of users with a large icon and small text showing the account name. A large amount of blank space surrounds the te...
