Re: [HOWTO] ATI hybrid graphics with open source radeon driv

However, what does one do if you have no vgaswitcheroo? Yeah... I already wrote a complete reply and decided to hit up Google since I remembered reading something about 3.12 kernel power management changes. The good news is, this should all automagically work now. The bad news is, seems to be broke...

Re: Abnormal power consumption lap switches off in 1 hour

Ok, I didn't know that there were computers which could use vga_switcheroo with 6000+ hardware. But I generally recommend people with setups like yours, to use fglrx. That driver also supports Intel/AMD hybrid, but it may not support very recent X server versions. I used fglrx, it had a nasty habit...

Re: Abnormal power consumption lap switches off in 1 hour

I was talking about the OP's Radeon 7000 series hardware. That hardware can not use vgaswitcheroo. If you have older hardware, Onyx47, then it's fine if you use this yourself. Yes, I have a 7670M myself. I have not tested the power consumption yet but setting my card to ON using vgaswitcheroo makes...

Re: Mint 15 Upgrade Intel Hybrid/ATI 3D not working

I any of the instructions you used, have you downgraded your Intel driver? There is a bug where newer Intel drivers don't work with Catalyst 3.4 (which you need due to Mint 15 using 3.8 kernel). Can you post the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log? I'm reluctant to tell you to just downgrade your Intel ...

Re: Abnormal power consumption lap switches off in 1 hour

@ Onyx47: Only old hardware (4000, probably 5000 series of AMD hardware) can do that; newer cards do not have a mux to switch between the graphics cards. You need to install the ATI/AMD graphics driver also known as fglrx or Catalyst, that's all you can do in this case. Are you sure? My card always...

Re: Abnormal power consumption lap switches off in 1 hour

Possible alternative to using fglrx: check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics In short, see output of: sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch If both cards show "Pwr" it means your discrete card is on all the time. You should be able to turn it off using: sudo echo OFF > /sys/...

[HOWTO] ATI hybrid graphics with open source radeon driver

[1] Introduction I'm posting this here because most of the information you can find is either obsolete or hard to find, and info about muxless systems is mostly buried within endless pages of discussions about Nvidia cards or muxed systems. First of all, you might wonder (if you don't already know)...
