Re: Code of Conduct for Linux Mint?

I don't have a problem with the idea of a code of conduct, but I don't know how bad we need one. "Be reasonable", as noted is too short. But, this is an area where brevity is a good thing. Reddit has rules that are usually short, and importantly they tend to be enforced. I can't image any ...

Re: Anyone else fickle about rolling releases?

I've tried rolling releases, but they're not for the likes of me. I'm not clever enough to fix them when they break. The most stable OS for me was debian, but I also missed the new and shiny versions of the software. Mint has been my answer for a long time. I always use a LTS kernel and when a new v...

Re: What are we playing now days?

I'm not much of a gamer.

I recently finished my most recent trip through Dungeons of Dredmor, and I'm taking baby steps on Chess.com to improve there.

I'm sort'a waiting on Diablo 4. For that, I'm willing to boot into Windows.

The upgrade went smooth. Good job, Clem & company.

However, I discover this morning that I'm back to the branded version of Firefox. I've removed it before and installed Firefox from Mozilla's site, but my memory gets shorter every day. Wish me luck!

I can't remember the specific titles, but the first computer game I bought was a text based adventure. The first I played was probably "Lunar Landing" or "Hamurabi"

Re: Do you donate to the Linux Mint Project? If so, why?

I'm old enough to have bought shareware. I use Mint and support it. The same for another half dozen open source projects. As Shultz noted, the workman is worthy of his hire. But there is more to it than that, for me. I get the warm fuzzies knowing that I've aided things that are good for all of us. ...

Re: Do I need a driver to connect my Kindle?

Comment by "murray" is spot on. I tried using my Calibre this morning. It failed. I reloaded it from the repository and it failed again. I went to the Calibre site, did a copy/paste into my terminal and Calibre installed the newest version and it runs fine.

Re: Single Player Games

Seems to me y'all are giving AisleRiot a bad rap. After the install of gnome-cards-data, you get ten additional deck themes to choose from. Just like a certain amount of memory, it should be enough for anybody! :D

Re: DVD Collection

I've used both Tellico and GCstar. Some time back I went with GCstar as my favorite. Unfortunately, GCstar is no longer a single click and install. To install in in Mint 20 I had to compile it from a GitLab source. This link https://gitlab.com/Kerenoc/GCstar was my source. Today, digging deeper, I n...

Re: Confused about KeepassXC Master Password

Maghdalena, I use KeePassX, and my wife and I have separate financial accounts. For us, dual databases would be the answer. Do you use a common computer, have all joint accounts, or would keeping different password accounts be a natural thing for you? If you do use separate password databases for ge...

Re: How often do you change user password

I use the same password for all of my installed distros. Until a year or so back that was a very simple password, then distros started nagging me about the weakness of my password. So, I lengthened and strengthened the password. I'm the only user of my PC so it doesn't much matter. If it is stolen, ...

"Consider recommended packages as dependencies"

I just installed LM20 for testing prior to making it my new daily driver. I'm currently running 19.3. A new install means a lot of boring reinstalling of software for me. I would like to use the Software Manager rather than Synaptic, but I want the "Consider recommended packages as dependencies...

Re: How is linux kernel 5 on linux mint?

I'm running two different installs of mint, one with linux 5.40 and one with 5.4.1. Both are working well on my machine . I don't have a need for this other than my own amusement. I certainly wouldn't install these without a dependable full backup and the knowledge of how to revert to an earlier ker...

Jeff,

Given that you're using the correct password, perhaps you should try cleaning your keyboard, brushing and blowing it with canned air.

Re: ...time for Linux Mint to go. Huh?

Just my two cents. I thought the article had a point. I came to Mint years ago because of the included codecs. For a variety of reasons, I've remained with Mint and been a fan. The Cinnamon desktop, is the biggest of those reasons, and Cinnamon is more important to me than Mint. Wishing Mint w/Cinna...
